Jose would have turned us down...really?

OOF

Tito Villanova who was surely a less inspiring choice to take over Barca than Moyes was to take over us managed to get Barca to win La Liga with 100 points.

We have the likes of RVP who guarantees goals and probably the best defence in Europe bar Bayern so Moyes is stepping into a very solid side.

And that's before any signings he'll make.

That is Barca's tradition. To use that example, we should be talking about whether ole, giggs, or another Utd great was manager. They also would have a better understanding of Utd and command more respect than Moyes, something the players would honour. Moyes does not do this.

Regarding sides.. Utd need a new midfielder or 2, and a new set of wingers.

I wouldn't say Tito was a Barca great. He never played a single game for Barca.

To say that Moyes won't be respected is hilarious. He's not some guy being promoted from a non league team. He's someone hand picked by Sir Alex ffs.

As for understanding United, well being that he's managed teams against United and constantly done well against us i'm sure that not only does he know the United players extremely well but he also knows their weaknesses and how to improve us.

Whoever came in, there would be uncertainty for Utd. Always is with a new boss. I actually worry that you say that short term results are imperative more than ever. Now I don't expect us to lose our first 10 games, but I do expect us to give Moyes a decent chance to settle in and do the job properly.

And whilst Fergie has done a brilliant job, he is the first to admit that 2 CL trophies (even if it is a cup competition) wasn't enough during his time - doesn't matter how many finals, at this club it is winning that counts.

That is of course something than Moyes will have to get use to, but there were a number of occasions during Fergie's reign when we would question his decisions etc, and perhaps his record bought him a bit more time and trust, but he made mistakes, and of course Moyes will do so also, but we have to give him our FULL backing - I don't want to hear, Fergie didn't do this or that etc, as if he never made mistakes. If Moyes does have a bad season, then you HAVE to say, he will make it right, because supporting the club is about giving him full backing. If it turns out 2 or 3 seasons down the road that it's really not working, then so be it, but you seem to be waiting to pounce on every mistake he makes.

If the original board had taken than view with Fergie, then who knows how things would have turned out. You need to show some patience and some true support, but you very much sound like a fan who is almost waiting for Moyes to fail and then jump on it, rather than saying this is our new manager and I'm backing him to the hilt.

You need to get over the fact that Fergie is gone, we don't have Jose, we have Moyes, so start supporting him and chanting his name like a true fan!!!!

I can't see Moyes undoing all that's in place in a single season. He'll do fine.

His transfer record over the years is very mixed and his 'spending almost nothing' myth isn't exactly true. Up until a couple of big money sales in recent years skewing the numbers, he had spent the exact amount his league place justified.

By most accounts he has the respect of his players and creates a team atmosphere which is extremely important. As long as he carries that over he'll probably end up with a title and a cup or two in the next two seasons.

If Utd finish 4th next season.. He will been on a warning I am sure. If Utd drop out of the top 4 next season, he may lose his job. We'll just have to wait and see.

But what's the point of saying that? If Jose managed us and finished 4th it would be the same.

When you start playing the 'if' game anything can happen.

Moyes will be judged correctly and accordingly WHEN he takes over and not now because to judge him now is the height of stupidity.

depends on circumstances as well

if Chelsea and City end up around the 90 point mark and United finish mid 80s, I don't think it would be fair to say 'Fergie would have won it and Moyes took us backward' because that might not be true.

City and Chelsea were awful over the 38 last season and I think even Fergie would have had his hands full if they play to potential next season.

The thing with Jose is that he is an opportunist, even his coming into football was pleading and who you know.

I dont know a lot about his time at porto tbh but understand he did very well there and that put him on the ladder a sone of the best

I personally have never subscribed to the view that he is one of the best simply due to his short term tenures at the worlds elite clubs and the finance available

I also think Moyes is the better choice for UTD, in terms of thinking he is stability and that is the bedrock for UTD. Will have to wait and see in terms of results

I also think Joses return to chelsea is quite clever. His only nemesis was really SAF and he has moved on, city are in a shambles again due to the lack of consistency in players and manager, wholesale changes is te problem

I believe Jose sees this as an easy trophy season with the other teams in a restructuring process.

I also think despite the whole ''I am teh special one'' and such remarks Jose actually is very insecure and that is his downfall

Onyl oneferguson - I think you are oversimplyfying it - what if he finished 4th but won the CL and FA Cup? What if we did a domestic double but went out in the group stages of the EPL?

Of course I want us to win the EPL, but it could be a 3 way battle with Chelsea and City and we lose out by a point or 2. We could lose yet another CL final. These things have all happened in the past with Fergie, and of course Fergie had a presence etc, but Moyes, whilst being his own man, will still maintain the spine of what has brought us success in the past.

I look forward to him bringing a bit of fresh impetus to the team, and I reckon Moyes will be chomping at the bit to prove himself at this once in a lifetime opportunity. If Moyes turns out to be shocking, then I will be the first to say so, but let's give him a fair chance. It's starting to go round in circles now, so all the best, and if any of you are interested in the golf, there's a thread on there, so maybe chat to some of you later.

Otherwise, roll on our first quadruple

We would never finish 4th under Jose.
People have just blind faith when they think Moyes will win trophies continuously for us. He is an average manager.
He had a chance to reach the fa cup final and lost to Wigan at home.

Mancini (who had won a lot of trophies) had a chance to win the FA Cup with City and lost to Wigan.

Sir Alex (who I think has won a lot of trophies) had a chance to win the league last season but lost to Wigan.

Wow.

Honest question Wayne and Robin. Why do you support United?

posted on 16/6/13

Mancini and Ferguson won plenty of trophies in the past and should have been exempted for losing once in a while.
Moyes doesn't have a single trait that qualifies him to be good as our manager. Apart from keeping a mid table team in mid table.

NO ONE TURNS UNITED DOWN, NO ONE, AND IF YOU DO THEN IT'S ALL A FECKING LIE,

NO ONE TURNS UNITED DOWN, NO ONE, TURN UNITED DOWN, NEVER, IMPOSSIBLE, IT'S UNITED, CAN'T TURN THEM DOWN, IF SO IT'S A FECKING LIE

FECKING IDIOTS, GET OVER IT PLS

IT IS WHAT IT IS, YOU HAVE MOYESEY, AND JOSE IS BACK HOME

So if he's good at keeping a team where they should be surely he'll be good at keeping United where they should be?

So according to your logic we should have signed Pulis since he had Stoke punching above their weight.

Well, Pulis just got sacked by Stoke so no. I can't recall Stoke ever finishing in the top 4 either.

Where were Stoke 5 years ago?
From the lower ranks of the English league to Europe. Pulis did a far better job than Moyes who kept a traditionally big club but now a mid table team in mid table.

Don't understand why people can't give Moyes a chance to even start his job before crying about him. Absoloutely pathetic, but what you would expect from spoilt fans.

If Moyes does well in his first season or 2, i'm going to be the first to call out all the people slating him already.

Please tell me which senior players Tony Pulis improved and nurtured? Any youth players they brought through that are now doing well?

Moyes has improved the likes of Baines, Gibson, Howard, Fellaini, Osman and Pienaar. Brought through the likes of Rooney, Barkley, Coleman and Anichebe.
