Laudrup plays football in the modern way, if Laudrup thinks Jonjo Shelvey would take Swansea forward we would be fools to not negotiate some favourable terms in the transfer.
Eg sell on clause/buy back clause etc.
The lad will improve a lot and I really think he will be a top top player.
BR likes him so he may not go anywhere.
If we are looking at bringing in Mkhitaryan then our options in the middle will be huge!
Gerrard
Lucas
Allen
Henderson
Mkhitaryan (ATM)
Coutinho (ATM)
Spearing
Shelvey
Now out of that list it looks to me like Shelvey and spearing will be out the door and if £8m-£10m can be raised from them then I'm happy.
If we are buying another midfielder then realistically he needs to be sold.
He isn't going to get any games with no Europe on offer, and will have no long term prospects of making the first team so a loan for me would just be a waste of time.
I quite like Shelvey, but he is an infuriating player and is probably better off being a bigger fish in a small pond at this stage of his career.
If possible I would like to include a buy back clause or a first refusal clause though, because it is possible that with maturity and game time he could develop into a top player in 3 or 4 years.
Right now though he is just not quite good enough.
I personally can't see Shelvey getting much better, he lacks a lot of core skills to make it in a team that plays total football: to rash, shoots to much, hot headed, lazy but to name a few.
This summer Liverpool has a chance to really turn it's squad on it's head:
Skrtel, Coates, Spearing, Assadi, Pacheco, Shelvey, Suarez - That's £55-65m for BR to play with.
Right now though he is just not quite good enough.
---
No he isn't. And we do need experienced players ready to make an impact in every single game... and that only comes from experience.
Good point regarding a buy back clause as it would, if possible, be worthwhile. He's clearly got potential and that might be unlocked elsewhere, under less demand at a club like Swansea perhaps.
A loan mightn't suit either parties right now, for his development a club like Swansea could do him a lot more good than harm. If the right offer comes in, he certainly should consider it.
a serious hot head ....
but theres definitely talent there

.................................
I think there's a lot to his game to like personally and I like his attitude, with a bit of fine tuning I don't see any reason why he can't make it in this division. Clearly Michael Laudrup must see something in him.
Do some people forget how young the lad is?
KLS
Alberto should be on that list. Similar player to coutinho in some ways and plays around the same positions on the pitch.
So its
Gerrard
Lucas
Allen
Henderson
Mkhitaryan (ATM)
Coutinho (ATM)
Alberto(ATM)
Spearing
Shelvey
IMO Alberto has far more talent and potential in his little toe than young Jonjo has in his entire right foot!!!! If we bring in Mhki then our midfield will be packed and I can't see space for Jonjo. I would sell him but not without a sell on clause or first refusal.
Got him for 1.7 m from Charlton. We are reportedly demending 8m now so we'll make a nice profit. Sell him for 6m with a 35% clause like Ince
BR made a mistake early on playing him in the number 10 role when he didnt have the technique or mobility to play that role. He should be playing as a midfielder and can still become a top midfielder for a top club.
Personally I see no harm sending him on a season long loan to a prem club.
I think it would be a big shame to let him go, though would understand if it did happen. I think he has it in him to be an excellent player. Some players just need longer to blossom or mature, especially the kind of game Shelvey has. I find it maddening that players are written off by the time they're twenty if they've not hit the heights. He's got six years until he reaches his peak, give the lad a chance...
Red Kenya. What utter tosh!! I'll bet you've hardly/if ever seen Alberto play. I'll bet none of us have. Don't see Barca B games on Sky much do we?

I thgink Jonjo has played Cm for us and found wanting there too (for lack of a better phrase)

Based on what? I'm gathering you've seen plenty of the lad in the Segunda division to make this claim?
Sure some people slate Shelvey for the sake of it. He mightn't be a Liverpool player right now or in the future for that matter but he's clearly talented.
Why also would you want a first refusal if you clearly don't rate the lad?
Shelvey probably isn't handsome enough for Kenya....

A 20 year old lad isn't going to excel in every game in midfield. Some have been poor and some have been decent.

Its Red Mamba.... <grrr> I removed the Kenya thing because of 'stigma'.
I have seen alot of Shelvey and IMO he will not be good enough for us and if he will we can't wait that long. Look at Coutinho he's already producing the goods but he's younger than Jonjo and in a different realm in as far as talent goes. Thats the kind we need IMO if we are to go with the young players system not a player who will take years to start doing what Coutinho is doing now!!!!!
I've seen a little of Alberto but since we got linked to him I have viewed as much as I can of him and I think he's a far far much safer bet than Jonjo. As I said in my earlier post this is IMO.
Most young players that eventually make it show flashes of brilliance when they come into the first team but they don't sustain performances. That's to be expected, my problem with Shelvey is that he shows flashes of really good play, not brilliance.
I've said this before but he reminds me a bit of Danny Murphy when he first broke into the first team, clearly ability there but wasn't sure whether he quite had what it took. Now Danny ended up having a decent career but I suspect had he remained at Liverpool he would have been largely a back up player. I would guess the same to be true of Shelvey.
Why also would you want a first refusal if you clearly don't rate the lad?
=====================
He might turn out great but we don't have the time. I think we should invest time in players with a greater chance of making it big than young Jonjo like coutinho, Suso and Alberto. The likelihood of success IMO is far greater. I just don't see Jonjo ever being good enough for us from what i've seen so I think someone else should have a go in his place.
Sterling work
Great post lad. Exactly what I am trying to say. I do like Jonjo. How could I not? He plays for LFC. But I just don't see him making it. Furthermore our style of play seems suited to a player with more patience, flair, guile and technique than he has ever shown. He is rash to tackle, shoots too much rarely ever hitting the target etc.
Shelvey is ga$h and has never looked close to being like the player some of our more optimistic fans have claimed. He should be at a team like west brom or something like that, and we should just accept that he isnt that good.
Shame if we do lose him for good. A season at Swansea would make him a great player I'm sure. Ideally we should only loan him with an option o a permanent, then be can decide for himself if he wants to come back and be successful for Liverpool. Good player jonjo just needs playing time
If he is going to leave I would rather he went on loan. He could play an important role for Palace or some other team.
If he develops then great, we can either keep him or sell him to a team he has played a major role in for more than £5m.
