Let's make a comparison

InCoutinho alone, Liverpool arguably possess the most potential out of all clubs in the league.

We're 12 months in under Rodges and already the team was playing great football and brushing teams aside towards the end of the campaign

I think there is a gulf in class with the two compared teams tbh.

Yet you have raised a good point, this appears to be the first time since 08/09 that you have had a team that has had time to settle. Which can only be a good thing for Liverpool.

Don't get too carried away. In the last 8 games, where you had nothing but pride to play for, you won four, drew three and lost one.

This isn't what I would call brushing aside.

op

That team of 08/09 was pretty much the same as the 09/10 one which had 25 points less and dropped to 7th.

I think Alonso was the only major difference.

the biggest difference was injuries between 08/09 and 09/10

H&G stripped the depth and there was no cover

Don't you ever get tired of trotting out the same old H&G excuses?

Pair of a-holes they were no doubt, but they were not responsible for some of the big mistakes made at your club, during their tenure.

Your squad was pretty much the same as it was the year before.

You sold Alonso and Hypia left. You bought in Aquilani and Glen Johnson.

Only major injury was Torres.

Longevity is key IMO, honestly if we'd finished 17th last season I wouldnlt have wanted BR sacked, it just makes no sence to sack managers so quickly unless you've 100's of millions to spend on players each season.

Yeah Liverpool had become too reliant on a player you couldnt rely on.

You might find that comment a little strange if you think about it.

Roy?

Vidic has a point to be fair. Winning under pressure with a lot to play fair while others are winning around you is completely different. It is much much harder going into a game needing to win rather than going into a game just hoping to play well.

Seem to remember that in Kenny's first half season in the last few games of the season where we had nothing to play for we were battering teams then as well and it counted for nothing the following season finishing 8th.

I think everyone would agree that we are improving quickly and have a good chance this year. Your right in saying that 08-09 Benitez team is a lot better than we currently have, nobody will deny that.

I would say however that what we have now compared to back then is a much greater deal of squad depth. Back then we had the likes of El Zhar, Babel, Ngog, Insua, Cavalieri on the bench, all very poor, and as soon as any of our key players got injured we would suffer dear. Squad depth is the key to maintaining success in the long term, United have had this for a long time and been consistently very successful. Stay optimistic and soon hopefully we will be close to where we want to be.

Roy the only people who wanted him at the helm was the English media. His signings were a joke and the football he has us playing I couldn't stand to watch, it was sickening and the results were not far off either. What was the positives about Roy at Liverpool please name them because I can't think of one, and I won't accept oh hes English.

We might of finished 8th but we continued to batter teams just couldn't finish. The first half of the season was a case of being the better team but drawing or losing. Similar to Brendans first half countless games we dominated and everyone said we should of won etc. It happens too many times to be down to luck too it needs rectifying and I think if you look at Brendans signings what they all have in common is creativity and goals.

Insua is a good player now.

That is because you know very little about your own club, and this just makes it easy for you.

It took me a simple bit of research that took two minutes to debunk your comment.

Therein lies the problem, all the other teams improved while strength in depth remained an issue at Liverpool.

H&G couldn't have effed us up more if they tried.

Simple is taking it too far for you. If you don't improve everyone else does and you're weakened as a result.

Yet during this time Rafa spent a lot of money on new players.

In 2008 alone Rafa signed 14 players. It is just plain lazy and factualy incorrect to lay the blame solely on H&G.

You went from a very close second, to a long way off seventh. You were not weakened that much, unless Alonso was a one man team.

You mean our best player?

................

Torres was never your best player titliv, he may have been your favourite, and you probably kissed his picture on your bedroom wall, before you got tucked in every night.

VC he was one of our best players at the time. He was prolific, and was pretty much our only striker.
