Oh, yes, Mercedes would have benifited because like the other teams , their drivers would not have been put in a position where the risk the FIA and Pirelli forced them to take is, as Hamilton said, unacceptable.
Now, thanks to the FIA, Mercedes drivers can carry on taking an unacceptable risk.
Personally, I really hope Rosberg and Hamilton get very vocal in the press over this.
