Physical Tottenham?

We must keep playing attractive football, that is key. We are Spurs, we have an identity. In my book, that comes first and hopefully the rest follows.

Chelsea had a lungbusting Lampard who acted as the second forward when attacking, feeding off the good work Drogba did, and dropping back to make a three when defending.

Essien and Makelele doing all the graft (and being able to play too). Thiago too.

They also had scarily quick and skilful wide players in Duff and Robben. Truly terrifying on the counter and a very exciting side to watch.

The mistake Mourinho/Roman made was signing Ballack and Shev. Totally disrupted their style and formation and influenced their style for years to come.

I think we have the tools to play the type of football from their early reign if we sign Benteke (or similar). It's not just the goals, but the improvement in the whole attacking department. Even keeping the ball when under pressure.

I think Siggy has Lampard potential. I'd like to see him behind a proper #9.

I can't believe he didn't play behind Ade once last season

I wrote an article on Siggy a month or so ago discussing his future position. Mentioned he could be our box to box in a 433 like lampard. Only problem being he'll be behind Paulinho there

Agreed HRH, it's weird considering that's where he was preseason, to all intents and purposes he was VDV's replacement.. was even taking the set pieces.

As soon as we moved Bale into the centre though he never stood a chance. I agree it's probably his best position but it speaks volumes about the lad that he's come on in wide positions and played well.

Little gem of a player

Plenty of games to go around

I think Paulinho will be doing more deeper shifts than people think anyway

Bales he has much in common with Lampard in terms of style. So unlucky at times.

I think he'll have a great season

Honestly, as much as I enjoyed our flair years under Harry I'm in favour of this if we finally shift the g00ns. Last thing I want is to see us 5/6/7th and be going on about how well we played.. every result is crucial at the top.

...........

I don't get this mentality. Why is about getting one over arsenal? It shouldn't be about that, it should be about us getting to where we want to be. No joy in us finishing 6th and arsenal finishing 7th

Hi Lionel

My comment " shift the g00ns" referred to shifting them from the CL. I'm all for aiming high but realistically the Manchester sides and Chelsea are out of reach for now. They can spend 30m in January if things are close.

As a club we should aim to win the league every season, I'd be happy with fourth place.

All this nonsense about spurs have to play in this fast free flowing way is just that - nonsense.

I don't want to see boring football but I want to see winning football

We have been trying the pretty stuff for 20 years an basically achieved nothing - it's probably time we gave something else a go.

That said, many people have said that they thought we were boring last season, I didn't see that - to start with we scored some incredible goals, and secondly we were involved in some absolute thrillers. Home and away v united. Away v Liverpool. Home v arsenal. Away v west ham and Chelsea home and away immediately spring to mind, but there were loads more

Ok fair enough, although I don't care if they miss out or not, as long as we're in it I'm all for it.

I think it will be fantastic to see as we have power, serious pace (lennon, bale, kaboul, walker are quicker than most premier league players) and rather odd for spurs we will finally have height all over the pitch. No more excuses with the set pieces!

Just because the players are powerful they have other attributes to there game for example grant holt/kevin davies very powerful but not much else to their game.

Yeah I guess so, doing it meaning they miss out would be so sweet though

This is sooooooo true. I am dying for him to fail just like he failed at Real Madrid. Other than judas there is nobody I hate more that's involved in football

Lion can't stand mourinho

I'm in the chronic camp here. Where this glorified stoke thing comes from I don't know because we certainly didnt play like that last season. Don't get me wrong, we were not as fluid and fast on the ball as we were under Harry but AVB removed that soft underbelly that plagued tottenham for a those years. We have a different mentality at spurs now and I am almost certain Avb will better last season. Any other time we would of finished in the top 4 with our record total. Arsenal just went into invcincible mode as usual these players will make us powerful and stronger.

No we haven't. We have tried go play good football throughout. Whether we have or not is another matter.

Under graham we had ginola in the side and tried to give him the ball at every opportunity. Sounds like we tried to play attractive football to me.....

Anyway who said anything about being like stoke ? Not sure when I mentioned stoke, my point is mainly that we have a mix of power and technical now, whereas in recent times we have more or less just had technical and achieves very little

If you have good players then they play good football. We have good players and we play good football, it's just the type of football that may change slightly
