Statman John, does it really make logical sense for us to offer a more valuable and superior player in Mata PLUS money for Rooney? It would have been Torres or someone like that plus the £10m.

This is a crazy amazing bid
Only issue is that accomodating Kagawa and Mata together would be really tough
-----------------------------
Not really.
Just play 4231 and have the three interchangeable and get your width from the fullbacks. "
For most other teams, yeah. But given how both you, as well as Everton earlier , mainly played through wings, would be a fairly large change in style
---------------------------------
Well we didn't play through the wins last season as they were all crap. All Moyes likes the 4231 formation.
You know how football bidding works. Hell, ANY bidding. Never accept the first one.
---------------
This bid is the equivalent of about £40m.
What I am worried about is us demanding straight cash and passing up an oppurtunity to land a genuine world class player.
Having said that, I just can't see Chelsea being daft enough to make this bid.

I really don't think that is true, when a bid is too good to be true which this one sounds it could back fire if we reject. None of us have any idea if this bid is real but if it my god we will look stupid if it doesn't materialise.
Mata +£10m for Rooney! Just writing it gives me a boner.
-------------------------
The buying club is Chelsea - of course you reject their first offer. Their owner is worth 11 billion or something ridiculous.
I says Mata OR Luiz, I wouldn't accept Luiz in that offer.

•••••••••••••
Never in my life have I wanted a rumour to be TRUE so bad!!!
Moyes actually used the wings through his full backs (Baines and Coleman) at Everton with players like Pienaar and Mirallas moving inside.
I think Mata is easily worth £35mill+
They may have had it the wrong way round. United offered Rooney + £10mill for Mata.

It doesn't make sense to me, but as I said, there has for a few weeks been lots of noise that Jose doesn't fancy Mata. Also, logic doesn't always come into the equation when Chelsea/Roman decide they want a player. You paid 50m for Torres who was quite obviously not the player he had been pre-injury. Where was the logic in that?
I would offer £15m plus Rooney for Mata.
Statman
Hope you're right, I just get worried when a bid is offered that sounds far too good to be true. I just wouldn't want us to f-ck this up for a few extra needless million.
United would be creaming their pants if we offered 10m + Mata let alone reject it.
The papers have just guessed Mata or Luiz. They're the two players that Jose thinks are disposable according to the media. Not sure why though. Im guessing the actual bid was 10m plus Lampard or something. Inject a bit of youth in that midfield of yours
£1.50 should be enough to sign Luiz.
Maybe with change too.
I would offer rooney, young, valencia, and 10m for mata.
Mr C, would Lampard be ready to jump into the first team? Maybe a loan move for a year or two before he's ready.
Don't get me wrong I'd absolutely love Mata at United, but i think to sweeten the deal they need to throw in their physio too.

I think Jose not wanting Mata is just a rumour. What's not to like about Mata? As for Torres, that's all the more reason why we wouldn't offer stupid money for Rooney. Rooney's current situation is similar to Torres' back then and so I don't think the club would make the same mistake again. If we get Rooney, we'll get him for a lot less than £50m, that's for sure.

I would say Man Utd would need to offer us £100 million + Rooney to get Eva.
Is there any chance United have rejected an offer of around £20-£25m for Rooney, and asked for Mata plus cash as a counter offer. Then got someone to release to the press Chelsea have offered Mata? Seeing as Mourinho keeps going on about Rooney, unsettling him, have United tried something similar titfortat?
Barf, I wouldnt rule that out. Good conspiracy concucting there. I mentioned on another thread, who would leak this bid as it unsettles not only Rooney even more but Luiz and Mata
Don't think JM wants Mata at the club as he is close to the Spanish contingent at both Real (who in effect forced him out of Real) and at Barcelona. Torres he can't touch as he's a pet of the owner.
villawookie - What about Dave?
Just yesterday Mourinho said this
"With Mata, I need to get to know him better. I like sometimes to play with what I call 'wingers with the wrong foot' – right-footed men on the left and left-footed men on the right. He is the only left-footed player we have when we want to play with a winger on the right side, but the competition is hard.
Also i highly doubt United would reject 10m + Mata, especially when Rooney wants to leave
Maybe the offer was £10m + a choice of x,y,z (not Mata or Luiz). But United, having seen rumours of Barca potentially bidding £30m for Luiz, and knowing Mata is not going to be valued at less than £30-35m, let it be known these were the 2 players offered, so if it flushes out other bidders, they will know roughly the cash price is quite high.
