Fellaini for me. He offers us something completely different to what we already have. Cabaye is no better than Cleverly in my opinion.
Plus we wouldn't have to play against Fellaini twice a season
Given a choice between the two, I'd like Fellaini. I'd like Fellaini if we managed to sign Fabregas. I think we lack a bit of physical power alongside Carrick and Fellaini offers this as well as being an accomplished footballer.
Personally, I'd have greater confidence going into the next season if we bought two midfielders. One in the Fellaini / Matic mould. One who will excite us the way the Thiago and Fabregas rumours have.
I think given time Fellaini would become a fan favourite. Probably the first time he smashes someone with a vicious tackle in a game.
His biggest problem is that most fans on here don't quite understand his game as they think he's just a route 1 merchant. I imagine after seeing him in action for us most would change their mind.
Cabaye is a lot better than people think. He just came off a poor season but then again so did most of the Newcastle side. He is a box to box midfielder and has a great shot on him. He'd certainly score a few goals a season for us.
Smashes someone and gets sent off
I'd prefer Fellaini but I think the two of them could work well in a midfield 3 with Carrick. Still bit of a step down form Thiago and Fabregas.
SLM
Keane used to get sent off and he was loved by the fans. I'm sure Fellaini will be a bit more restrained than he was for Everton while still bringing a decent level of aggression into a midfield that lacks a bit of bite.
Fellaini's well better on the ball that people give him credit for. His short passing and inter link play is brilliant.
Fellaini is what is missing in United's midfield when they come up against powerful centre midfield units like City or Spurs. He could potentially make a huge difference in those games and is why i think Moyes should still push hard to sign him even if United do somehow manage to sign Cesc.
Hoof ball with Fellaini when losing.
It'll be the easiest thing to do.
Fellaini and Cesc would be dreamballs.

If United's transfer business this window was signing these two and keeping a hold of Rooney i'd be delighted.

He gives us that plan B when struggling but he has the ability to play the ball around too.

No, skill, mobility and one touch passing is Whats needed.
Like last season against City. And 2nd half vs Spurs at OT.

I'd be happy enough even if Rooney didn't stay in that scenario as long as he didn't go to Chelsea or CIty.

I'd argue we need two midfielders. One on the mould of what your saying and one in the mould of fellaini.

Fellaini has plenty of skill and he isn't as slow as people think - long legs don't scurry
No skill? Have you seen Fellaini play before SLM?
Because everyone else on this site who has seen him play knows that he has skill and can keep the ball on the ground.
Fellaini is a a lot better than people give him credit for. If he did move to United I reckon people would quickly realise this and like Robb said, he'd quickly become a fan favourite. As for being a dirty player, so what? Keane was a much dirtier and nastier player than Fellaini and he was fantastic for us.
Where i don't agree with Robb is about Cabaye though. Don't think he'd give us anything we don't already have. I think he's found his level and would be a bit disappointed if United signed him.
SLM
It's a squad game and you need different types of players in your squad . Fellaini is a much better footballer than he is generally given credit for but he can do the ugly things well too.
He would be a great option to have in a lot of games, he'll likely score over ten goals a season from midfield and will add a physical presence that is sorely lacking at the moment.
Fellaini can play. The fact that he is very robust, tall and strong is an added bonus.
skill, mobility and one touch passing is Whats needed
-----------------------
A mixture of silk and steel is what I would like to see.
The people clamouring for small, skilful midfielders would soon change their tune when playing the likes of:
Spurs: Dembele, Sandro, Paulinho
City: Toure, Fernandinho
Bayern Munich: Schweinsteiger, Martinez
...And getting completely out-fought.
Rooney out with Fellaini and Fabregas in would be a good summer's dealing

watch this vid and tell me he's slow and has no skill.
His passing is so much better than people give him credit for.
Robb who really has not seen fellaini play?
Cabaye hands down. He is the right balance of attacking intent and more than decent defensively. And we do not need defensive midfielders. Fellaini himself will tell you that's what he is. The difficulty we face from bring the ball out from the defence to the midfield means we should always want a cabaye over a fellaini.
Fellaini, it is not even a moot point.
Though, neither will be make my top-5 list, Fellaini offers more than Cabaye. Cabaye is just a more experienced Cleverly.
