Suarez is not useless. You have the player for the next 3 years. But Real Madrid could certainly come in now or in the future and Suarez can allow the move.

Without the express permission of Suarez. Keep in mind I said future transfer windows. Another club could come in now and Liverpool can sell to them as long as it is £40m+.

In normal transfers the club can negotiate with anyone and then the player negotiates wages with that club. In future Suarez will say if he goes or not because of this clause.

what's been being reported pretty consistently is that if you make a bid over £40 mil you get automatic permission to talk terms with the player, make your sales pitch on a move, etc.

Basically you can talk to the player without violating tapping up rules.

Arsenal met that threshold and there is nothing to stop Suarez and Wenger sitting down to discuss a potential future.

M8 I have no idea. I do have law training but these are very complex details and rules that are very specific to the premier league.

Obviously this bloke on talksport is a sports lawyer. I am not a sports lawyer.

What I think he is trying to do is work out how these clauses work in the premier league. In Spain its a simple release. Its not the same in this country thats why Liverpool are correct according to him. They can force Suarez to stay. However he said that Arsenal/Suarez are also correct in that Liverpool have to allow Suarez to negotiate with Arsenal and if Liverpool then force him to stay, the power will shift from the club to the player for future negotiations. And Suarez can say alright as you are doing this against my wishes I will leave on a Bosman only. Thus Liverpool will not be able to sell him in the future and he can run down his contract.
