"Neymar is unproven in a top league where Bale is (as well as the Champions league)."

Fair enough even though I have no doubt that Neymar will be amazing for Barcelona. I just didn't agree with you when you said Bale is more marketable than Neymar.

There are exceptions. Name me other British superstar that comes close. Oh and don't say Wazza.

posted on 27/7/13

I would have every Brazilian superstar as being more marketable than the British counterpart

Because they were far, far better players.

I really don't see what your point is.

I said in my post that it was my opinion and I could very well be wrong (in opposition to W&R who was 100% sure).

I also agree that Neymar will be amazing for Barca. But IMO Bale will be that much more dynamic.

Neymar is unproven in a top league.

So Pele was a bad player according to you.?

Sorry, but you obviously don't understand the point the grown ups are making.

Rob, thing is, in Spain he'd have less space to run into and that would make it harder for him.

Plus, if he's in the same team as Ronaldo he won't be allowed the shoot on sight policy he's allowed at Spurs as Ronnie is the star of the show.

That's not to say Bale wouldn't be class there, I just think Neymar is more likely to be a success there as his skills are more suited than Bale's, which was your question.

My point is that Neymar is a better player and more marketable than Bale. Got it?

Modern football means the Brazilian league of the 50s/60s is totally incomparable to modern times.

Ok, I can understand that.

But your argument that a player is likely to be more marketable because he is from Brazil is absolute BS.

Hmm, I disagree because in England players are on you in seconds and you have very little time to make a decision and time to execute the pass/dribble/shot.

I know your point was a slight variation, i.e about the less space to run into but surely that's the same thing?

In Spain the pace is a touch slower (not slow but not pinball speed) so surely Bale will have that much more time on the ball to make a shot or run towards the goal?

Isn't that what his game based on? I just can't see how the slightly slower pace of La Liga will be any more challenging for him that the PL.

Unfortunately our resident idiot Robb doesn't understand so it has to be explained to him in that way.

That wasn't my point.
I merely countered Roberts point that he thinks Bale is more marketable because he is British and plays in the PL. And apart from DB7 my counter argument is actually true.

It depends on the opposition, so you are slightly generalising that you get lots of time on the ball as teams do actually press.

But against Madrid they are usually sat back a lot deeper and give the team less space in the attacking third.

It's why you always see Ronaldo shoot on sight as there's not always loads of space for him to run into, unless they're countering, and why Madrid struggled to break teams down last season.

Bale won't be allowed to shoot on sight like Ronnie, I guarantee it.

This isn't saying he won't adapt his game, I'm sure he would, but he's better suited to the prem than La Liga, and Neymar is probably better suited to La Liga than Bale.

Bales game is perfect for playing against pressing teams though.

Say Real are defending and a team is pressing them then they can put a decent ball over the top/along the ground for Bale to run onto.

His pace is the perfect counter to a pressing game.

The Bale vs Neymar debate will soon replace the Ronaldo vs Messi one on here .

It's too soon to say Neymar is better than Bale. The latter has proved himself in a top league and the CL. The Brazilian league is not a top league but it isn't Neymar's fault. La liga would be very interesting next season if Bale goes to Madrid.

Bale is the new Carrick for Robert these days.

posted on 27/7/13

Rob, I think you are misunderstanding what I'm saying. It was more about how Neymar is better suited to La Liga than Bale and therefore more likely to be a success in Spain than Bale.

That's not to say Bale will struggle, he's a class player and would be class there as well, just that I feel he's better suited to our league.

I do understand and you may well be correct. I'm just looking forward to watching El Classico next season!

Bale won't be playing in it, though.
