First game of last season when Fellaini went on a one man wrecking mission against us, our board was inundated with threads screaming his name. And now....?
Strange one that!
I'd take him big time, we often get bullied in games against teams with a good/big centre midfield. Which is a lot of teams. Last year we were getting dominated in silly games cause no one was getting stuck in. We'll be doing the bullying with that beast in the team, not to mention he's a great link up passer of the ball from midfield to strikers. He's got a lot more finesse than people give him credit for, that's for sure.
i think fans have been looking for a scholes type signing for a few seasons now and this summer its looked like thats what the priority has been with the interest in thiago and fabregas. Fellaini isnt that type of player so is unfortuantley most likely been viewed as a 2nd best signing for want of a better word.
Ponderous,slow,hot headed !
We need athleticism, dynamic, ball carrier .... someone like Modric
Fellaini is one of the best players in the PL outside of the top four teams. Some seem to think he's just a big lump with little skill but that just isn't the case. He's a very good all round footballer and combined with his strength and size means he is a formidable opponent for anyone. On his day he can be unplayable.
Put it this way...i personally think Darren Fletcher is finished at United and he needs to be replaced. For me Fellaini adequately replaces him in fact he's an upgrade on him. That doesn't mean to say that i think United don't need another different type of midfielder in the Cesc mould because i think they do. But someone like Fellaini would be a hugely important member of the squad and a great asset to have.
Fellaini to replace Fletcher and someone like Cesc to replace Scholes is what's needed in my opinion. Remember also that Carrick is 32 now and won't go on forever.
Fellaini plus a 'marque' Midfielder for you guys would be a good TW, imho.
Agreed the ideal aquisitions would be fellaini and a world class creative cm
Agreed Vivec.
Buy Fellaini and someone like Cesc or Modric and keep both of Rooney and Nani...that would be a great transfer window for United imo.

The fellaini that beat us was an attacking midfielder in the mould of tim cahill. He was not the midfield controller or annihilator we need. Before moyes began using him regularly in an attacking position, not much was heard of him except in set pieces.
Now there is nothing wrong with the services he offers but it is redundant when put together with carrick. We do not struggle for goals, but we do struggle with midfield battles. Anyone watch a midfield we look at envy and what you that stands out is how effective they are at closing down the opposition midfield. I don't believe putting him together with carrick will give us the right pressure in midfield.
Also, the link up between defence and midfield is horrible. Despite carricks passing, it is rare when our attacker is sprung into space to operate. Our midfield is poor at bringing the ball passed the centre line. The only one who seems capable is ando and we all know how loved he is... Yup.
What we need is a midfielder a lot of urgency and some skill to take on that player closing him down and getting into space. Very rare to find.
Against us he was all chest and head and you think he destroyed us?
Long balls to his chest is not destroying us IMO.

You're like a stuck record ffs. Go and watch the game again. None of our players could get near him in that game. Don't forget it was his head that won the game!
Last year when we lost to Everton, most people on here were shouting on about how much we need a player like Fellaini, that he was exactly the type of player we needed in midfield, we should try our best to sign him.
--------------------
then jones completley shut him out in the old trafford game and everyone went queit
Fellaini has one problem in terms of perception - his size.
If he had exactly the same attributes - the great first touch and chest control, decent range of passing etc, but was 5'10 rather than 6'5, people would all be clamouring for him.
Because he looks like a big lumbering buffoon people unfairly slate his lack of pace/agility - not his strongest points, but certainly no worse than Carrick for example.
If United only sign a small Cesc/Thiago-style midfielder, people will still complain they don't have the 'bite' to compete with physical midfields like City (Toure/Fernandinho) and Spurs (Dembele/Paulinho/Sandro). He'd be a great signing for you in my opinion.
He wouldn't last for 60 minutes in the Champions league. Good player but a thug.
then jones completley shut him out in the old trafford game and everyone went quiet
--------
Give you that, Jones was on his game. For Giggs to score probably goes to show how effective our MF as a whole was!
But it still doesn't take away from the fact that Fellaini has the tools to trouble any top side!
the question is would the fans that dont rate fellaini be happy to reject him and start the season with the midfield options available....
in other words if it was fellaini or nothing would they chose nothing ?
in other words if it was fellaini or nothing would they chose nothing ?
---------------------------------------------------------------
I'd be gobsmacked if anyone thought that...
The only possible justification would be from those people who say "I'd rather see Januzaj etc get a chance", but realistically that won't happen, as with Powell, Pogba etc in previous seasons.
No signings would just mean Giggs in centre midfield.

Strangely I kinf of agree with you on this. Against us, although very effective, he was just plucking balls out of the air however that is due to the position he played in that day, higher up the pitch to take advantage of our makeshift defense.
There is so much more to his game than that and he would dominate a lot a central midfields in the PL.
Unfortunately we do play a lot of long ball at times, against Madrid we were just hoofing the ball up the pitch. The only player we have who can deal with that is Wellbeck, fellaini would at least offer another outlet in that department.
Having a big lump in midfield isn't going to stop us getting bullied and overrun. The kind of player who will do that is an energetic, mobile midfielder who is always looking to close down quickly - someone in the Gundogan/Vidal mould, which Fellaini most certainly is not.
And it annoys me how people keep pointing to our loss at Goodison Park last year as a reason we should sign him. He played up front and bullied a makeshift CB in the air. I don't see how this justifies spending £23m to put him in midfield.
Daredevil - I mention Modric because at his best he can control the midfield, get out of tight spaces with his skill, can shoot, pass and is underrated when it comes to ball winning ability and getting stuck in. My main concern with him is consistency. Is he consistent enough ?
Anyhow read somewhere that some talk of him going back to Spurs as part of a Bale deal.
Personally think Fabregas is better as a number 10 and I see Kagawa playing there.
It's true that there are not that many quality CM available of the type that we seem to be after
Fellaini or nothing what would you chose ?
Fellaini, but hopefully that's not a situation we find ourselves in.
