At last – an article about football!

We’re not too bad on the injury front, touch wood! Coleman’s out thanks to a dangerous tackle in our final pre-season game, and Arteta’s still sidelined but on the whole it’s looking good, for now.

Some good pre-season patches mixed with some pretty dire, forgettable periods. The last 45 mins we played was the worst we’ve played in pre-season but I think they were just trying to get through the game without picking up an injury.

If Moyes plays Barkley from the off he’ll give you trouble and I’ve got a fiver on Beckford scoring Saturday. Moyes’ only problem is who to pick.

High hopes (again) for the season and providing we don’t have to wait until October again for our first win, we’ll be up there.

Top 3. Easy.

Burgerbuns,

I would like to see Barkley used as an impact sub with 30 mins to go. As an unknown he will cause lots of problems for teams and his development will not be rushed.

"we'll be up there"

Where do you expect to be?

What is Barkley. What are we to look out for?

Shhhh, don't tell him or he will have Arry on the phone to Bill.

I know what you mean PJS, but I think he'd benefit from a start. He deserves it. Give him an hour from the start to see what he can do and see how he handles himself. Wouldn't hurt to try something different. I see what you mean though.

Devonshirespur... Barkley is a dressing room motivational song. "If Moyes plays Barkley from the off he’ll give you trouble"

Burger,

My concern is that he will start well and fade towards the end of the season like Coleman did. However that tough season should see Coleman through a full season this year, would it do the same for Barkley? I am not so sure and he is an asset we need to nurture if possible.......

Who am I kidding, set him loose on that plank BAE at LB for Spurs and he will give him a real working over!

PJS

THFC LB BAE is FAB

COYS!

posted on 8/8/11

Is he the same tempramental LB Coleman ran ragged last season?

Or was that Ashley Cole?

BAE is a target for us to attack, only his pace saves him and he is shocking under pressure. I would have Big Vic at RM and get at him early doors

I wouldn't start Barkley all season, but he'll get peed off coming on as a sub all the time. Doubt Moyes will give him more than 20 mins on Saturday anyway.

Assoo 'just a job' Ekotto?

PJS

BAE is a very very good left back and has been our most consistent player for 2 seasons now. only a handful of better lbs in the prem imo.... evra, cole and baines.

I have to agree with Chronic.

I would leave Spurs fans to judge players they watch every week.

BAE is very underrated and despite having the occasional shocker he is usually excellent for us. fast and tenacious, skillful and 100% committed. He does suffer from a lack of cover with Bale/Modric/Kranjcar often in well advance positions

Devonshire... on BAE.. dont you find it wierd that noone outside of spurs seems to rate him? its quite amazing. you will be hard pushed to find a spurs fan with a bad word to say about him, although there are a few who dont rate him.

I think I'd be bringing Barkley on after 60 mins. And I think that's what Moyes will do.

Having said that, who plays centre mid? Cahill, Ossie, Heitinga, Rodwell? Heitinga looks out of place there for me.

Heard Rodwell saying this weekend that he's at 'peak fitness'?!?! The lad couldn't muster a sprint on Friday! Too much potential to be playing 5 yard backwards passes every time he gets on the ball

posted on 8/8/11

That's quite common isn't it? You know your own because you see them regularly.

We've got one like that. Victor Anichebe. Amazing player, amazing skills, Messi-like. Unknown outside of Everton. Simply brilliant. The next big thing.

Don't tell 'Arry though in case he wants to put an offer in

Rodwell did look out of it on Friday but only after Coleman went down. I reckon they were all saving themselves.

Moyes has a difficult choice but I'd go with something different. Go for the win.

Burgerbuns... I assume your comments about VA are tongue in cheek? I have heard many an Everton fan slate him !

That is a contradiction really. He hates being roughed up but will happily dish it out. I would have big vic fall on him a few time to soften him up for young Barkley

i dont undertsand how its a contradiction..... the vast majority of spurs fans love him, and a few dont rate him.... just as a few (unbelievably) dont rate modric.. there will always be a few like that.

i have to be honest that i cannot remember too many right wingers who have got the better of him. di maria and cristiano ronaldo are two who spring to mind, but aside from that noone sticks out.

It has been a mixed pre season, but I would happily watch them wind up slowly in pre season for a winning start on Saturday.

If I were BAE I would be worried about Walker or Naughton taking my spot at LB.

I would love to see him up against Coleman again. This lad stepped up from League of Ireland and gave the worlds best LB's a turning over last season (Evra and Cole)

nah... walker will do a Bale if anything and end up challenging Lennon for right wing. Kyle Naughton is good but we dont need another RB. he will be off on loan and eventually sold.

Danny Rose is the back up LB.

Chronic - definitely. I was gutted they gave Anichebe a new contract earlier this year. He is a big lad but I've never seen him shine. He's good for falling over and pouting. Some people like him, I'd love him sold off.

I'd happily eat my words if he comes good but I can't see it ever happening.

I agree PJS, would prefer the slow pre-season we had and some early wins. Fingers crossed we don't go 4-5-1

Burgerbuns you should sell him and buy Keane with the funds

posted on 8/8/11

I'd do a straight swap - Anichebe for Keane - even if Keane is 30+

At least you're guaranteed a minimum 8-10 goals with Keane. I wouldn't put a penny on VA scoring more than 2.
