which of our players, past or present, have you never rated despite nearly everybody else holding the complete opposite view.

Well that's easy...

Surely you're not serious. He might not be as good as he thinks, or even as good as some of us think. But he is at least top 3 best players in our squad, along with Holden and Chungy.

There's was games last season that he genuinely bossed.

Chris Eagles will never win BWFC fans over because of the type of footballer he is. Many of our fans would rather watch a sh it thug than a gifted talent.

He is never going to be a physical player. It seems that its ok for Okocha to be a non-physical player because he was world class, but not for Chris Eagles to be because he isn't.

I would suggest Eagles is as pivotal a player for Wanderers in 2013 as Okocha was in 2003.

We have a lot of fans who will never see that.

Beautifully put from the man with the big hat.

I know how you feel tho, WATOAW. I think Kevin Davies is rubbish.

Can I smell our first fight of the season brewing....?

Ding ding !!

Same with Chungy Largehat. People giving him so much stick on Saturday cos he's 'slow on the ball', and stops when he's got the ball too much. I think our fans only want to see a certain type of player. Sometimes you need to relax with the ball and make sure you keep possession and not give it away cheaply. Chungy did that on Saturday and I wasn't unhappy with that. Obviously could have had a better game defensively.

The title of your article is wrong. The term 'bobbins' suggests rubbish and maybe you don't mean that. Maybe you mean he is not the sort of player you rate. However 'bobbins' is clearly not what Eagles is. He has his failings but over the season last season he was our best player. He is a real handful at this level. He may never be effective enough to be a good top flight player, but as for 'bobbins' never!

Spearing was our best player last season, not Eagles. Voted fans and players player of the year.

Get yer facts right!!!

IMO!

Well you should have said that.

Sorry my fault!

To be fair, Spearing was our player of the year, but Eagles was probably our best player last season... :/

Don't discuss

I would not play him every game like last season, he was burnt out after Christmas and only got a bit of form back late on. Would rotate the 3 wingers we have and that other fellow.

Why is there a debate about Eagles?

Regardless of people's opinions on his style & demeanour, the lad can play a bit, scores goals & offers flexibility with his versatility.

Unless there's a better option, he has to play.

As I said in the OP, this wasn't supposed to be a debate about Eagles. It was about players who you couldn't see what everybody was raving about.

But...

Largehat. It does make me laugh when people are accused of only wanting to see sh it kickers? That's nonsense, but we need everybody fighting for the cause. Does it really not bother people the way he shirks challenges that aren't even 50/50 but more 70/30 in his favour?

As for comparing him to Okocha, you answered your own question. Okocha was world class - Eagles is Championship standard. How many games would Kevin Davies have played in the PL without the battling side to his game?

Cravies. The title of the article isn't a reference to Eagles as such, it was supposed to reflect the point of the OP.

I think within the team his role works and he plays it well. Whilst I understand your point about tackling, I have never expected him to and I think fans that expect him to don't accept that that isn't part of his game - just as taking the ball on the wing, getting half a yard and whipping a cross in isn't part of Medos game, for example.

This isn't necessarily a reference to anyone here, but I think lots of football fans in general, don't accept the limits of individual players. I think as long as a players role suits the team, then I'm happy with that. I think the perfect team has a 'kicker', like Medo and his weaknesses (dribbling, crossing for example) are equally compensated by Eagles. As long as that happens throughout the team, I'm quite happy.

My dad used to really really rate holdsworth, despite nearly everybody saying he was a donkey and waste of money etc.

I always rated warhurst when fit, particularly in holding midfield roles....very very few agreed with me

I wanted Holdsworth to come good so much but the icing on the cake for me was his Wembley miss against Villa. My old man and me were some 2 feet off our seats in mid-air celebrating before his shot landed! Never forgave him after that!

I also used to get really annoyed with Nobby, but he showed his class after he left us. He needed to move and we needed him to move. Was a great leader, but so frustrating that he didn't make a simple pass!

Oh my other was Jussi. Distribution was always complete crap and why he couldn't control the football before booting it and giving it away! People raved about him and I always conceded he was good at stopping shots, but the fundamental reason why the team would be on the end of wave after wave of opposition attacks was down to JJ giving the ball away.

Thanks JAH. That's my afternoon now filled with images of that miss!

Were you behind the goal? We were quite high up right behind the goal. I've never seen a look of disbelief on so many faces as I did that day.

Like Kevin Davies...?

I don't think Kevin Davies role suited the team. That was my whole point.

Jay Spearing, the reaction across numerous forums is that we are signing a great player rather than just a slightly above average clogger. I just can't get excited about signing a pug faced scouser.

He might have been player of the season, but runner up was the mascot from the Blackburn match so wasn't the greatest achievement.

Kevin Davies' style of play no longer suited the team as Dougie is trying to change our playing style.

However under Allardyce he was integral to our success.

The fact a player doesn't suit a certain style of play doesn't make them a bad player.

I rate Eagles, however he can be very frustrating to watch.

It is a balancing act. At Brum last season Eagles scored a majestic free-kick, yet minutes earlier he'd completely switch off for Brum's opener. So if the 2013-14 Eagles is a mirror image of 2012-13 I to am not bothered he's missing in the slightest because the bad cancels out the good - he goes walkabout too many times.
Now if Doug and Lenny can reset his concentration so the good far outweighs the bad then we have a class act on our hands and he should be first name on the teams sheet every week.
