They've also been guilty of the contrary. Gervinho to Roma last season, remember?

Adrián to Porto, Mandzukic to Atleti. Very interested in how Atleti reinforce for next season considering the players leaving. Have they closed the deal for that keeper from some Portuguese club (forget the name)?

I am pretty sure they will try and get an attack minded player, either for the attacking midfield positions or a striker, possibly the former. They will try sign to sign Cazorla now they have sold Adrian for good money and at the moment I am not sure whether he will be allowed to leave or not. Not too bothered.

You little rat, lying in wait for an hour...that was my trick!

Also, what a waste of comment #9999.

Thanks for the link by the way.

Atleti have already signed Mandzukic btw. He'll be their no.9 for next year. Can't remember what other signings they've made off the top of my head, but I'd imagine another support striker/winger maybe, and another creative midfielder.

They also look set to lose both Brazilian defenders. They've got Gutierrez in the wings for CB, who looked pretty accomplished partnering Godín at the World Cup, not sure what they intend for LB though.

You are so wrong if you think I have just been waiting for an hour! I have been waiting since the count hit 9900 yesterday I think

About 9999, I know it is even a better milestone but I was afraid if I post a comment fitting for it, someone may wise up and get 10000. Wasn't going to let that happen so I struck when no one knew what was happening

They did sign Siqueira from Granada/Benfica as left back about a month ago didn't they? As for CB, I do expect them to keep Miranda unless that is the player Barca are planning on singing but I guess they will put one hell of a fight to keep him.

A creative midfielder is a must though after losing Diego. Actually two of them. One for the left side and the other for the number 10 position and they should move Koke to CM as I feel he is wasted on the left!

posted on 11/7/14

Oh that's right, Siqueira, my bad.
Koke does a great job on the left of MF, moving him central wouldn't necessarily improve them that much imo, not immediately at any rate.

Thing is, that Simeone didn't really know how to fit Diego into the side. They've loaned Oliver out again too. If he insists on 2 up front with Mandy and Villa and then Arda and Koke in the wide MF positions, he can continue to go for Gabi + another holding mid (Suarez or the eventual Tiago replacement). Gabi's not going to get younger though, and their high-energy game would probably require another MF to give him some rest from time to time. They'd never get him, but a guy like Veratti could work wonders for them once el Cholo had drilled a bit of discipline into him.

Villa went to the MLS ioag. Where have you been man! Anyway, the reason why in my initial comment I said they needed to sign a striker is they have sold the three they had! Mandy and the new kid from Argentina will be enough? Remains to be seen.

Also, the reason why I am advocating for Atleti to move Koke to the middle as I believe that there is a distinct lack of quality there and they would benefit greatly from having him play there and then sign a natural left sided attacking midfielder.

Man, I'm senile!

Wump, your suggested line up would change Atleti too much imo. Their set up needs an out-and-out destroyer/ball-winner in midfield, plus someone who can help out in that capacity and recycle possession out wide or to a target man. Both Gabi and Koke have great work ethic and the creative skills, but neither is a proper DM, and that requires specific game-reading skills in the defensive phase.

For eveything to work at Atleti they have to work as a unit off the ball, and fiddling with the DM could prove costly imo.

Also, I don't doubt Koke's ability to operate as a CM, but I think it could take him time to adapt.

The new kid from Argentina? I don't know, but at Atleti they seem to think he's el Kun's second coming.

Couldn't help myself, I just had to post something in response to the Liga bashers on that thread.

That was a demolition.

I'm sure he'll say something about Palace and Pulis.

The bloke is a complete bèllend.

Gonna be interesting to see how Atleti set up and who else they sign.

I agree with Wump that Koke centrally could be a good bet. But even if it's not cm perhaps it'll be attacking mid with Suarez and Gabi behind?

They'd need another winger. Unless that Argy lad can play there, or indeed he'll play behind Mandy instead.

posted on 11/7/14

Tbh, the new lad's so young and unheralded that I'd be surprised if he makes the first team from the start. Let's see if he isn't loaned out and, if not, how much game time he actually gets.

posted on 11/7/14

Yeah depends how high they rate him I guess.

I've seen a couple of videos, not much to go off, but I can understand the Kun comparisons so hopefully he'll play and bring a bit of excitement and guile to a team that is crying out for it.

"Wump, your suggested line up would change Atleti too much imo."

I know that and I wanted to post that too but I guess I am just lazy. It would be a huge tactical change for Atleti that is unlikely to happen over one summer although I feel they need to make it.

Yep. As I mentioned elsewhere, looks like Uncle Flo wants to reinforce Castilla to make sure Zidane's successful in his first job as head coach.

Madrid seem to be interested in james rodriguez

looked a good player at the WC.. not sure about his consistency at club level (as ive hardly watched him play club football)

I wonder where he'd fit in the madrid team/squad ?

If Madrid are getting Kroos I don't know why they'd want Rodriguez.

Verratti is probably the player you should sign from the French league, if anything.
