I'll support Baines and Fellaini 100 % if/once they join us, but in the meantime, I'd rather we didn't buy them.

I will be true to myself, I do not want any of them

My general perception on here is that, even though most posters that a pro-Fellaini, only want Fellaini as he'll improve what we have, not actually be a genuine solution to our midfield problem.

My feeling on the whole situation.

when moyes said he was going to strengthen the midfield I was so happy, when he said we would be pursuing young and worldclass target I was estatic

2 months later we are chasing fellani

Well, I'd like to throw this one out there - i've been blowing Fellaini's trumpet for months (no pun intended).

Baines too. But I can imagine the OP is quite true for a lot of people.

When did he say young and world class talent?

If I'm being honest...

Fellaini would improve us a bit, but not enough to consider us potential CL winners that's for sure. I wouldn't be too excited if we signed him, but wouldn't mind the extra midfielder.

Baines... I don't want us to sign him. Good player, although personally I dont think he's as good as some make out - certainly not better than Evra. I'd be quite unhappy if Evra was left out for Baines, he's still a top player and a great character who loves the club.

I'd rather us give Fabio and Büttner a chance to fill in when needed. Seems like we'll be spending a lot of money on a position that doesn't need strengthening.

My other concern/disappointment is that we've gone from 'looking at the world's best players' to potentially signing two pretty good players from a mid table side (and potentially spending up to £40m in the process)!

I'm not overly exited about Fellaini, although I think he's a good player, but I REALLY want Baines. I've wants him since his Wigan days. Quality full back.

Both decent but feel we will have our pants pulled down regarding price.

Fellaini no thanks. Average player. Baines yes. VEry excited. Best LB in the league

I don't really understand the offer though. I swear, even the pessimistic supporters on here who don't want either of them could tell the board they were going to cost more than £28m combined.

I'd say you've been blowing more than his trumpet going by your opinion of him.

The thing is that at times United have been crying out for a physically strong type in the centre of midfield...too often the midfield have been bullied by other teams in that area. I remember that was the case in 09/10 when we lost to Bayern Munich on away goals the likes of Van Bommel were just running right through our midifled at times...and god knows how many times Yaya Toure has done it in recent seasons.

Fellaini is not a prime Diego Maradona but his attributes will help United a lot in those types of games..and in games that are less physical also. The guy can certainly play a bit and will prove that if he eventually comes to United.

certainly not better than Evra.

He is better than Evra in every aspect of being a full back.

Dark

United are run by businessmen whose sole aim is to not pay a penny more than what a player will go for.

I'm sure they made this low bid to get the players unsettled and to demand to leave and while I feel we will raise our bid and get the players it will be for less than what Everton want to get.

People severely overrate Evra on this board as he's a really liable character. I love Paddy and he's been a great servant for United, but Baines would improve us so much.

People complain that our wingers cannot deliver a decent cross and then let Evra get away with it even though his attacking play is vital to the way we play. Baines would give us far more going forward as he's better than anyone we have at crossing a ball.

And he's as good as Evra defensively anyway.

if thats the case then mate shouldnt we be looking at replacing our wingers and getting a full back who can actually defend, because for me Baines is no better at defending than Evra is.

Dunc

You're missing the point you Cambridge-bred barsteward!

If Baines and Evra are the same defensively but Baines offers more going forward then surely he's the better left back? (most would say he's better defensively as well but lets forget that for now)

Imagine having what Rafael does so brilliantly on the left too? We don't have that currently which is why we're going for Baines.

Going by what Martinez said about being so pleased that the release clause had expired, I personally think he will want more than the release clause amount anyway for Fellaini.

I'll be stunned if we offer 40m for the pair which is where Everton's ballpark might be in my opinion

I just hope we have something going on in the background that the press haven't got a hold of yet but, if I'm honest with myself, I'm no longer convinced that's the case or at the very least, we are struggling badly to get them

Plenty of time left yet but I thought we would have done our business by now.

No ins aside from a kid and no outs aside from Tunni on loan

I'm actually pretty pleased that Moyes hasn't come in and sold anyone, chosing not to tinker too much with the Champions and rightly so, but, like everyone else, I really hoped we get in a top class midfielder this Summer. Fellaini will feel like getting second prize to me personally

i dont think Baines is better than evra defensively, but the difference is evra has the pace to help him recover.

A baines v Ronaldo, neymar or messi would result in Baines being skinned every time because they would outpace him.
at least evra would have a chance.
