Are you saying you believe rooney is in fact on 300k a week?
Comment deleted by Site Moderator
The thing with these figures are they are pretty much an estimate. I have seen reports of us signing players where their transfer fee is stated in one paper as 17mil and in another as 20mill. I also seem to find that as the years past by, previous transfers somehow have increased in value from amount reported then.
Rooney's contract is reported to between 200-300k a week depending on the source (and even then, you have to be specific to the news article as I have seen the same paper report it as a certain figure one day and another figure the next).
Well the guardian has the resources to gain some kind of evidence about their stories, do you dreamy?
So he did hold the club to ransome, is it true he's being offered a new contract again.
No mans bigger than the club unless its Rooney.
The Gaurdian do have the resources. Many newspapers do. The question is, are they right? We have seen the debacle with the WMD that they will print what will make news. The news corps were so sure because the governments said there were WMDs in Iraq, even when Iraqis and the UN inspectors were saying there weren't. We all know how that turned out.
You comparing Wayne rooneys wages as a story to the wmds in Iraq story
Not comparing, just saying people shouldn't trust everything the media says.
None of the papers agree on what Rooney is earning.
it wouldnt be that strange if rooney was on that much imo
I know a friend of a friend of a friend - that sounds cliche but it's true and she is very close to the McLoughlin family.
They also say that Wayne is on 300k and some of the United squad refuse to talk to him
I reckon the papers tend to throw in sponsorship money in with the wage totals to make a "better" story.
WMD? What are you talking about, that was the US and UK Governments lying to start a war, papers like The Guardian were the ones who told the public the truth much like they are doing right now with Snowden.
I'm sure The Guardian have on good authority Rooney's wages and I'm guessing the 300k includes other stuff like image rights etc. None of us have a clue, we can ONLY go on what we read and hear in the media.
No paper is perfect but The Guardian are usually one of the best unless you're some old right wing liberal hater. Their music writing sucks though.
Nobody apart from Rooney, Stretford and the club know his salary. United don't reveal them and I'm fairly sure Roo hasn't rung Fleet to inform them
The reason we see differing figures from 160k to 300k is because they are all guessing
Macca
Knowing how our club has conducted it's wage structure over the years, what figure are you inlined to believe?
300K is not even remotely likely.
I said it last month and I will say it again , anyone who takes the Guardian as a benchmark to good journalism is an idiot.

Spot on.
I would guess that he is on 200k a week, but as you say Macca, that would only be a guess. The reason for me saying that is that both Ferguson and Gill said at the time they were offering him the best terms of any player in the country. Tevez was on 198k for us, so it would have to be around a similar price bracket.
In terms of the wage structure, Gill said in the parliamentary select committee that even no player at United knew what he was on, going away from your usual wage structure of having four or five definite tears. Going by your overall wage bill, there obviously was an increase, although by exactly how much, again, would be guesswork.
I'm also not sure what they did with his image rights. I think it is safe to say 300k is way way too high though, unless they are including sponsorships which are separate from the club.
tiers, not tears. There might well have been tears from some of the other players, but that isn't what I meant...!
VC
I'm reckon around 160k with add ons but it is a pure guess
Spot on Melts as usual.

That article is utterly hilarious. Why people continue to believe every single word writtenis beyond me
I defended Wazza earlier from somebody who sais he has been acting like a spoilt child
Love to know where he got that from. To me he has acted professionally unlike the likes of Bale Suarez Cabaye and I even referenced Berba's behaviour at Spurs prior to the move.
Last time I checked, Roo had just put in a quality performance v Chelsea

i agree there on Wazza. He has kept his trap shut, head down and focussed on getting himself in tip top condition.
Fair play to the guy.
Whats your take on all this band wagon jumping over Kagawa?
I'd be surprised at 160k, that seems too low considering what was said at the time. 200 would be a better bet for me.
VC,
We are in the age of twitter and youtube. Fans see a player put in a few good performances and forget about how a team is defined by how well they play and compliment each other, not the strength of individuals.
For me, a lot of your fans are turning Kagawa into someone he really isn't (and doing the same thing negatively with Rooney).
Melton
It is my opinion that the Premier League is just to physical for Asian players.
I have never yet seen one who doesn't get pushed about.
It was my biggest problem with Park. He was just to easy to push off the ball.
I hope Kagawa can prove me wrong. I really do.t can't see it.
VC
When I heard we were signing Kagawa I was actually pretty pleased until we then went and signed RVP
I wondered how were were going to utilise him given that the people who claimed United play 4231 (you know who) were talking nonsense.
433 was a distant memory for us and United, for me, played either 4411 or 451, particularly in Europe or in the bigger PL games.
Where would Kagawa fit into that? Roo is on a different planer to Kagawa centrally and grabs games by the scruff of the neck when we need it. Kagawa just doesn't.
So we stick him out wide in a 442 and it simply doesn't work. he isn't the player who is going to take on a FB and stick a good cross in. He's a player that wants to operate in and around the box which he did to superb effect with Wayne v Norwich
I said last season that it was too early to judge Kagawa and he can become a great player to us but those who thought he could fill Wayne Rooney's boots were miles wide of the mark in my opinion.
In terms of going forward, a lot depends on how Moyes wants to play. If he continues with the United 442, Kagawa is going to have to accept he'll be a benchwarmer for much of this season as he is not, and should not, be breaking up the RVP/Roo partnership and it's pretty pointless sticking him out on the wing, as last season showed
If Moyes goes with an interchanging narrow 4231 consistently, then he could easily fit in on the left of the three
As for the CM. I don't think he has enough to his game to play there. Certainly from a defensive point of view
I think Kagawa's days could be numbered if Giggs is getting on ahead of him and I'm a little surprised he hasn't already asked for a transfer.
Having said all that, he'll probably start on Sunday and score 5
