Realistic? Did you really expect to have signed no one with a couple days to go when the window opened?
OP. I like the cut of your jib.
The problem is, this isnt the first window that hasnt gone to plan for you. Its been like this for a number of years hasnt it. Waiting for that window where you sign top players without selling some of your own? Fans may feel this is the final straw that breaks the camel's back? As I said, if you didnt have those problems in the previous windows and then you had this summer of not signing anyone, you cant really complain but to be like this for 4/5 years on the trot and asking fans to be patient when you look back at what has happened in previous windows can be difficult. Fans are not frustrated just about this window. Probably its frustration built up over a period of time and going in the last week of the window with no signings or no top signings is obviously gna get fans even more riled up than any other club who are experiencing the same problems.
Every single thought and idea the WOBS have about Arsenal they have to tell someone, nice to see a considered article
I also am waiting till 2nd of sept to pass judgement. If it is as you were then, I will be back here cussing you proper.
But there lies the difference Mr. C. We haven't lost any of our players (except from injury) so this is actually a weirdly positive window for us.
I will be back here cussing you proper.
It's obvious that there is a desire to make signings (all the links and reported bids this Summer can't all be rubbish) but also that we are plainly unable to execute and close deals for whatever reason.
So I'm with OP in believing that Wenger knows we need to strengthen, but unfortunately I can't share in your 100% confidence that we will adequately.
I have a sneaky feeling players dont atually want to sign for us. We clearly do not have the same aura as we have in the past, Wenger is an ageing manager whose vision does not suit these new players, most people can see we are a laughing stock at the moment why would a player want to play for us?
No ambition in signings and no silverware for years.

Yeh you havent sold any of your players, that does make it a different window for you but the difference is, competition is getting even more fiercer now. Cant afford to stand still even for one year.
The problem you have this year is, fans are baying for Wenger/The board's blood right from the off. They may ease off a little if you beat Spurs. They may hold off even more if you seem to be in pole position to get 4th but come the next window, there will even be more demand to make signings.
If that's the case we need to start offering some serious money. That always works :D
I think half of the people moaning about the Flamini signing would be happier if we had paid 15m for him. We need a utility man everyone has been saying this. In Flamini we have a good, experienced player who can pay cm, dm and both full back roles. It's quite a good signing to be honest.

Wait what?
Which one is it? Do we have no ambition or do we have ambition but can't get players to join?
Oh yeah Mr C I completely agree. If and it's a big if, we don't sign anyone this window and miraculously still achieve 4th then we have to spend an obscene amount next window, even January we should be up there as one of the biggest spenders. I want us to spend I just have a little more belief and support then a lot of alleged fans on this board. I in no way want Wenger to resign but I do want some bloody explanations as to why we aren't signing world beaters when Gazidis ran his mouth off at the beginning of the Summer.

Just thought I'd give an outsiders perspective.
Signing people early on in the window shows we have ambition and other players are more likely to join.
What kind of message have we sent to other teams players by leaving our signings this late? Will they want to sign for a team that looks ambitionless?
Which one is it? Do we have no ambition or do we have ambition but can't get players to join?

Whichever you think it is. Each as bad as each other.
Thanks Mr C. all perspectives are welcome...even Spurs fans!
He isnt a spurs fan, he is a chelsea fan
I think ambitionless is the wrong word, like I said in my OP, it's just being sensible, and like it or not that's how Wenger operates and therefore how the club is run.
I think it certainly has its merits, how many teams have frivolously spent and ended up in a much worse position because of it? Leeds, Portsmouth etc.
I know we're much stronger financially than they ever were, but still, there's a lot of risk.
I also think that there's a lot of apprehension in Wenger, with paying a lot of money for a player.
Totally agree with AWW as well, if it was a different player with the same level of ability, that cost £15M, fans would be pleased.
Could never have guessed even with the username Mr. Chelsea
My point was referring to Mr.C's team of choice it was a general comment that even Spurs fans perspectives are even accepted...sometimes.
Also I don't buy into the whole opinion that if you don't spend loads on players you have no ambition.
To me the Emirates Stadium shows huge ambition, much more so than a £30M player.
I still think we're feeling the knock on effects, and the financial implications of building it.
Like I said, just my opinion.
