When and IF Byram is sold (can't see it happening today!) it will be to a much better club than Norwich.

"..Sam Byram for a fee of around £1m."

Hahahahaha.

The Byram situation is funny one for me. On the one hand I see him as a future player we can build a strong team with. He had an excellent first season and is a very good prospect. I'd like to see leeds keep young players like him. On the other hand- 1 million could bring in someone we need like a striker or wide player!

I dont know why we come out with things like that.

If he was to leave, Norwich would be a good club to go to.

He won't ever be regular for a top 4 team due to the obsession with foreign players, so a mid table PL side is where he will end up if he leaves us

We won't sell him anyway. Best club for him is Leeds, in the Premier League.

LIW, couldn't agree more. When you look at the bare facts on his CV there's not a lot to justify a big price tag.

He's a good player, but has been over-hyped by the media.

I've no doubt he'll be a Premier League player, either with us or a club like Norwich, but seems unlikely that'll happen today.

If anything, that article just shows what rubbish journalism happens in football around the transfer window. He's not going to be sold for a million, just like he's not going to be sold for £8million - both of these fees have been quoted in the media for Byram this summer.

Just like how you have people claiming to know how much money certain players are on a week. Yesterday you had the English press saying that Bale had been sold for 100 millions euros, whilst the Spanish press had it at 93 million euros.

I dont think its as much about his cv as his potential. Delph hadn't achieved anything with us but still commanded a decent fee.

Out of interest do you think he would be worth as much as delph if he went? Personally i hope he stays.

Sorry eddie seem to have made same point as you

Delph had miles more potential at same age

And will get a call up for england soon

Rawdon - yes, but potential can only be gauged on what the player has done so far.

To answer your question, I think he'd be worth less than Delph - partially as central midfielders typically command more than full backs.

I have to disagree with you liw, Delph showed he can play well in league 1 whereas Byram held his own in the championship at a young age

Lets hope he has a good season again and that the injury won't have damaged his good form to much

it wasnt elph fault leeds was in League 1.

We are talking potential, delph had huge talent, that why all clubs were after him.

Whos been after byram.

Delph stood out like a sore thumb

Don't see Delph having more potential. Different positions, so not really comparable, but he was more eyecatching cause he was a centre mid.

In terms of a right back, Byram was brilliant, not only at the defensive side, but also overlapping.

Clubs will pay more for an attacking player or midfielder, so that's why Byram won't go for the same sort of price as Delph did.

£3million for a right back who's had 1 season is a lot of money. I doubt any club will go over that. But that doesn't mean he's not worth more than that for us.

I'll put a wager on that in a few years Byram plays either within or just in front of the back 4.

He won't be a RB all his career. Just have a feeling about it from what i've seen of him.

Delph went for more money.
Delph went to villa when they were chasing top 5.
Delph was stood out in a more scrutinized position.

That being said...

Silencing of Zaha, Matt Jarvis and Bale.
Great finish that cup game.
Byram stood out in a harder league

Having seen both id say Delph has the higher star potential, better technically, better physically, and has that something beneath his badge.

Mike
And apart from Delphs start to this season, the Villa fans were wondering exactly what they'd paid £8m for. Injury problems apart he was woeful and a very forgettable loan spell ended in injury back at ER.

The lad has been injury stricken tho. If he hasnt played regularly he cannot be accurately judged.

As has been said Bale started as a full back....

There is not one reason why Byram should not follow suit in the next few years....

byrams not the trickey nor the speed to play as a natural winger beyond the championship. Good cross and good overlapping, pefect for rb.

Think he could play cm but don't think he should, would he really be better in cm than mowatt? i think byram should stick to rb as his main position, obviously if needed can play elsewhere.
