Real ale is refreshment for the Gods, sadly most on here are girlie beer drinking mincers who turn up their nose at anything that doesn't look or taste like a specimen.
Beeradvocate.com is good for reviews of anything you're thinking of purchasing from the other side of the pond and has a pretty decent database of beers worldwide
Now you're talking!
I love English ales.
For starters try anything from Hook Norton brewery.
They Always have seasonal specials, usually consisting a blonde beer, a dark bitter, a pale ale and maybe a wheat beer.
The brewery, in the village of Hook Norton ( near Banbury), opens for tours. They still use a steam engine to power the place which the late Fred Dibnah serviced.
Have fun in your quest!

Sir Will, it seems like you are a aficionado of real Ale. That is some list but I doubt I will be sampling any of those treats here in Spain. However we are getting a better choice of special lagers but they all seem to be brewed by the larger concerns. Nothing like the English Ales but some of them are quite tasty.
Hi Mallorca, I sympathise with you, my best mate in Spain suffer from gout and I believe it is extremely painful. I hope the tablets work for you.
Some brilliant stuff to look at now, thank you very much one and all for your efforts.
SWIE - The pain is worse than childbirth! Glad it's in the past now. One tablet a day is a small sacrifice...
I pleased it's working for you. Long may it continue.
Moorhouses - The only good thing to come out of Burnley
If you're gammy legs ever manage to take you to Bruges, I can recommend a beer called Garre Tripel.
It's only sold in one bar and there's a reason for that - it's 11% and it makes your head go all funny.
After downing a few of them ("Hey, I'm from Bolton and can drink like a man! What's the worst this girlie, foreign lager can do to me...?", I woke up partially clothed on a couch in the reception of our hotel, where my wife had finally given up and left me.
Not for the faint-hearted.

Moorhouses - The only good thing to come out of Burnley
=======================
Excellent Brewery with some really good ales, particularly the Pride of Pendle and Pendle Witch's brew.
Don't forget...
Bottled beers are usually just craft beers
It's not real ale if it's out of a bottle unless it's bottle conditioned.
What about Bank Top Brewery, is he still going these days?
One of my favourites Wobbly Bob...
On the real ale subject is anyone a member of the Gallon Club at the Flag in Bromley Cross.
Wobbly Bob is brewed by the Phoenix brewery in Heywood, formerly the Oak Brewery.
Legendary stuff.
Some from round me worth trying...
Hobson's - Town Cryer/ Old Henry
Wye Valley Brewery - Dorothy Goodbodys (there is also a christmas ale that is excellent)/ Butty Bach
Ludlow Brewering company - Boiling Well/Ludlow Gold.
All those brewerys have quite a wide range of different types of Ale - light/dark/stout etc, and they are pretty much all great.
Not sure about getting them in Spain though...
Enjoy (i do anyway!)

It is still going. I'm not sure how up to date you are, but they took over the old Carters Arms on Belmont Road a few years ago, it's now The Tap. They've also taken over the Brown Cow in Horwich. I'm not sure if that's open or not yet.
If you're looking to try a few, Mallorca, the Tap serves 1/3 pints. I think you can either buy 3, 6 or (I think) 9.
Mallorca Trotter....
If you've got anything planned Wednesday 9th - Saturday 12th October then cancel it and get yourself down to Bolton Rugby Club.

Never thought i'd be jealous of a trotter.....
Thanks to all for the efforts... I'm going to be ploughing through this lot and joining AA before Christmas...
Much love to all the non trotters too....
Christmas !!!!
You'll be lucky to make October
