LOse one game now and England in big trouble...this shouldn't be...bad selection on Woys part!

However gave Woy the job

Montenegro still have Moldova to play
Ukraine still have San Marino to play

We're in a very precarious position

Capello, who is a top top manager, didn't fair much better than Woy though.

It's not the manager that's to blame. It's a whole long list of things. Right from the FA's handle on grassroots football right through to the ridiculous amount of mediocre foreign players we have clogging up the PL and lots more other reasons in between.

Fergie would struggle getting a lot more out of this group of players. We're just not that good.

At this rate even if we finish second we won't get a play off place. Still, it's pretty funny that given how crap we've been we are still top.

You're right. Just realised only the best 8 runners up out of 9 groups qualify! We definitely need a win against either Poland or Montenegro to stay on the safe side

does a win v Montenegro put us through?

posted on 10/9/13

It would secure at least second place.

Should be good enough to get us in the top 8 runners up for a play off place as well.

No Montenegro have Moldova still to play Kaisers so we'd need to get a result against Poland too

posted on 10/9/13

Marco, we'd be on 19 and they'd be on 15 making it mathematically impossible for them to finish above us.

Oh I misread

If Poland win 2, we win against montengro, then it's 19-19 with us having better GD, Poland better head to head

not sure how qualification worls

Goal difference comes first. They'd have to smash both us and Ukraine to finish above us.

And if we did beat Montenegro and Poland beat Ukraine, unless they do overcome that massive gap in goal difference, we'd top the group anyway.

Poland beating Ukraine and us beating Montenegro effectively wraps up top spot.

any manager would take where england are right now with the fixtures we have left. its totally in our hands with 2 home games left against mediocre oppo

If we do finish second I reckon we'll end up sneaking in as seeded by the skin of our teeth.

But saying that we could end up being drawn against France or Sweden if they qualify.

we will win both games at wembley. dont worry about that

posted on 10/9/13

it's going to be all out attack cricket score wins at wembley of course

posted on 10/9/13

How can you be so sure about that when we've only beaten San Marino and Moldova in the group so far

posted on 10/9/13

This is true. We've drawn all of our games with Ukraine, Poland and Montenegro.

mm I wouldnt say that especially vs Poland, but I think we have enough to get us thro comfortably.

I think we will make utter ar5es of ourselves in the finals, but thats for another day.

I think we can still top the group. But our showing in the qualifiers doesn't convince me that it'll be comfortable.

We are really struggling to create anything against the better sides in this group.

If Capello was in charge we'd have qualified by now, he handled the 2010 WC badly put he knew how to navigate a group.

Hodgson has always seen a draw away from home as a good result, which is fine at Fulham but when you're the best team in the group you should be looking to pick up at least one win away in Montenegro, Ukraine or Poland, none of whom are particularly good sides.
