Fixtures shambles....

Years ago, this was never a problem.

I have no idea how it's come to this. There again, It's hard to feel even a morsel of sympathy for the players..
When lots of fans are on minimum wages & very unsociable hours, & pay quite a high percentage of that low income in admissions to games.....
only to watch over paid prima donas in effect taking the 'peace'...

regardless. 7 games in 21 days is an unnecessary backlog...
& I can't help mention again, those 14 games Halifax had to play in 31 days at the end of last season..
absolute madness.

Yeah but you can't call what hallifax play real football .let's be honest .

Hey Darn...what about the old days...Easter Saturday, Monday and Tuesday games.....obviously the lads were fitter in them days...

Flippin' 'eckers like Jacko....
Easter Monday & Tuesday yeah...but they didn't play both days, It was one or the other.

hands up all those who used to get Chats off the 'Jeepoz' at the fair at Easter ! 3d & for that you could get a toffee apple, a bag of brandy snap, Chats, Candy floss, shoot tin sambo's, fish for a plazzy duck,
& chuck three darts at playing cards stuck on a steel sheet

oh how we laughed.

oh ! & it were only 2bob to watch Cattlin, Parkin, Nicholson, Dobson etc etc.....
They'd run Robins lot ragged.... & they all had a tweft of a woodbine at half time.

days.

3/1 for a Huddersfield win on Tuesday, excellent value providing you play a strong side. Keep the confidence high, plus another option open to have some success this season.

There's also a 2 week break in November, no idea why, no FA Cup or qualifiers, anyone know?

Hydy....

What's a chat ! Chats are what they called the fried new potatoes that they served up at that time of year !
They were too small to be cut up into 'chips', so they halved them, chucked 'em in the deep fat fryer ..& served 'em up instead of chips...

Jacko - being a lot older than me - will know more about this than me..so if he could confirm that would be good ! I think it was because the small new 'tatties' were the 1st early crop of the season, & used as such..
everybody I knew called 'em 'Chats' anyway.
For anyone interested, I've stuck a Kidderminster v Fax match thread up...so it's open to abuse, contemplation or comedy maybe even ridicule...

I had a look at that link Jacko
interesting reading..we had a sheet start to the season eh !

Rotherham
Boro &
Boro in 4 days That would have been for postponements due to the heavy snow that winter.......
wouldn't it

One things for sure. I bet there wasn't a blade of grass anywhere on that Leeds Rd field at that time of the season ....... A BLACK pitch with white lines .

nice try Darn...

Our 1970 promotion season was the last time we played 3 games in 4 days over Easter...link here --

http://www.statto.com/football/teams/huddersfield-town/1969-1970/results

The only grass on the pitch was by the corner flags and on the wings...otherwise it was 'baked earth'...can you imagine our Prem players trying to play footy on that surface nowadays...they'd have knee and elbow pads.... but maybe it would stop them throwing themselves to the floor every 2 minutes

Towards the end of the season when the drier weather came along you used to get the occasional 'dust storm' blowing around the pitch with the odd 'whirlwind' twisting it's way around the players...

them we'rt days lad...

AH The PROMOTION season Jacko remember it well..
very well.

Not 100% sure, But I think that out last game against Watford ..when we were crowned Champs' 7 points clear (When it was 2 points for a win) & only 16,000+ turned out .....
That wasn't that flash really was it.

Stuart Scullion for Watford...right bang in front of me in the Bradley mills end !

What a night

The highest gate at home that season was v United = 30,907 (I DO remember that game )
2-1 ...back of the Cowshed, green (fake) Slazenger

lowest home gate 10,200 v Bristol City.

seems a lack of Tuesday night games this season??
I think that was to do with the financial situation and not wanting too many midweek away trips for fans???

posted on 23/9/13

That would be..'an a bag-o bits thanks'
