What if he sets up three goals?
There is more to s striker than goals
Whatever Soldado does today, I would like Defoe to have a good 20+ min run-out.
We've enough players in midfield to set up goals, how is it suddenly ok to have a striker scoring goals on the bench and one who's not on the field?
We have a big squad with competition for places, it's common sense to me that he either starts scoring or gets rotated. Why is he the only player seen as an automatic starter even when not doing his job? I don't get it.
Wotcha Messiah
I think soldado offers more than goals with his movement making holes for players like siggs to score ...but as you say JD is actually scoring goals which makes a dilemma for AVB ...if he plays JD we may be closing off chances for the midfield to score.
I would like to see Defoe get a chance to see how the new team and system works with him
I'm all for players who are on form to get the shirt, but we've had PL games against teams who have either shown us tons of respect or been against tough teams such as Chelsea and arsenal. The cup teams we've played have been mediocre at best and not been able to park the bus hence defoe's goals.

Yeh would love to see Soldado bang a few goals in today and even Lamela but I don't think Lamela will start in the league just yet. Soldado for me needs to get his scoring boots on and I have massive trust in him. You can already tell Defoe is getting frustrated with his latest interview.

This morning I have been trying to remember 3 Defoe goals akin to the two that Crouchy and Pav got at WHL against Inter ??
I cannot recall even one. Anyone with better memories than me ??
Good point Galv, that Messiah is a selfish facker

Defoe has been 3 times the player Soldado has this season (so far).
Lots of Spurs fans are refusing to admit it because Soldado is the big £26m marquis striker.
£26m for Soldado right now, looks absolutely laughable.
wait a minute. defoe has been scoring v pub sides.
dont forget that when soldado played in the europa he got a brace....

Sliding in/tap-ins at the back post? Think he got one away to Wigan 3/4 years ago but I'm sure he handballed it to control it first, also remember one at home vs Newcastle in 2007
"wait a minute. defoe has been scoring v pub sides."
Yes, yes Chronic.
Defoe's goals 'don't count'.
And who has Soldado been scoring against?
Any in open play?
This whole Soldado business is making some Spurs fans look like Liverpool supporters. Soldado can keep his place, because we all hope he comes good, but lets not pretend 'he's done well' or that Defoe doesn't deserve to start ahead of it.
We just look ridiculous.
RC. i just said that when soldado played against the calibre of opposition defoe has been scoring against then he got a brace.... didnt you read my post?
Soldado offers more than Defoe in terms of the all-round game as illustrated by the link up for siggy's goals vs Norwich and Chelsea.
Any stats to show that soldado has been wasteful infront of goal/not performing? Can also argue that if a striker isn't scoring or getting chances then the midfielders should be dropped too.
now i actually like defoe... but soldado has been good for the time, despite not scoring... and the team has been winning... so why change it?
if defoe starts today then fine, as i said i like defoe, and i am sure he would do well... but soldado is a far far better striker than defoe, so lets get him settled in and scoring goals as soon as possible, its not as if we are losing games so cant afford to bed players in.....
RC's opinion is so typical of spurs fans... the same group who were writing off siggy last season and saying to sell him. the same ones who are piping up about lamela, suggesting he may be a flop, the same ones loving eriksen but if he has a couple more anonymous games like he did v chelsea then he will be next on the hit list.
ridiculous

To be honest, I just hope Soldado scores to get moaning fans off his back. In many's eyes if he scores a tap in and does fack all the rest of the game that's better than having an all round great game and not scoring
Has everyone forgotten how poor Defoe was in the league since Jan? Whilst Soldado was once again proving what a top striker he is with Valencia.
I think he will play Roberto ...in my opinion he is tactically the better player
The question should be if the team would score more with Defoe on the field, and I dont know if they would - as I think Soldado offers more than just goals, he worries defences with his movement and plays other players in ..im also not sure he wouldnt have matched Defoes tally had he played againt the likes of Tromso and Anzhi
galv
soldado has played one game v a pub side and got a brace.
unless you consider palace a pub side too... where he scored our winner...
Defoe has been 3 times the player Soldado has this season (so far).
Wow. What a ridiculous comment. Lets look at who Defoe has scored against.
Soldado has been playing really well, his all round game is lightyears ahead of Defoe. Aside from Defoe's goals, his actual game is very frustrating.
Soldado is by the better player. The goals will come. He could have 3 at Cardiff.
