Lampard does not deserve to start.

A 4-3-3 would have been decent.
Goalie
Defence
Gerrard-Carrick-Wilshere(he can play is way out of form, he is good enough)
Sturridge-Rooney-Welbeck

This allows Gerrard to get forward where he is effective and less chance of him playing hollywood passes, and pace on the wings for the counter attack.

you do realize Gerrard is the captain?

Yes, does this not help my point?

It really isn't difficult, Lampard playing just removes any threat of dynamism and ball retention. Oh, he hits the ball hard for penalties, he must play.

Yes, but he doesn't play for the right club.

"He's knackered"...but was in the top 10 for running in last season's stats.
"No ball retention"...but was 5th in the pass -completion stats last season.
"not creative" but was placed high in 'chances created ' last season, and has provided a very high proportion of the assists for England's goals since the last WC.

You occasionally get an objective view on here, but not all that often.

Given time, I think the Gerrard/ Lampard partnership could develop into a successful combo.
Just give it time.
Maybe another 50 games.
God, everyone is SO impatient! !

Fack the match thread, to many caants on there it's embarrassing.

England match threads are more painful than the national team's football.

No offence, king of britain.

5th in the pass completion stats- a top midfielder should be top 3 or 2 if England want to win anything

posted on 11/10/13

Yeah, this can be the match thread.

we should of given the captaincy to someone a lot younger, gerrard is simply undroppable because hes captain

Januzaj should be captain.

A word of warning, King, keep your match thread off of the Arsenal board.

We will give it Adnan when he becomes nationalized.

Forr, beat me to it.

Don't want to spoil it if you're recording the game for late, but England cruise to 2-0 half time lead, concede with 15 minutes to go, then cling on for a nervous 2-1 win. Don't bother watchin, it was ddreadful.

The worst thing about the whole situation is we will probably nick it and qualify thus keeping the hapless hodgson in charge, picking the same, safe teams playing turgid, predictable rubbish that's been getting us nowhere for years.

Ah, so you'd go for somebody like Joe Allen, then?
Very high pass-completion stats, rarely creates any chances?

The only Englishman above him was Carrick, but Carrick wasn't in the top 10 for passes in the final third, nor for chances created.

The two best in the league, for that combination of ball-retention and creativity, are Santi Cazorla and Gerrard.
