The benefit system was introduced as a safety net to help those who were genuinely facing hardship because there wasn't enough jobs to go round or they had a disability that prevented them from working. That fat sack of shít is nothing but a parasite who'll hopefully get his handouts docked when the government introduce the £25,000 ceiling.

If someone wants do something about benefits, they should start with the royal family.

Its the Welfare system that needs changing completely.

A couple of years ago my Uncle and Auntie were both made redundant within a couple of weeks of each other. They were in their late 50's so finding new employment was a little tricky. Fortunately my uncle was offered a 'new' job at the company that had made him redundant. It paid more than £100 a week less, but faced with that or possibly a long stint unemployed, he took the job. My auntie wasn't so lucky and struggled to find anything, using up most of her redundancy before going to see what the state could do for her. 'Nothing - your husband is in work, live off his earnings'. Which was fine except his earnings - reduced - didn't cover their weekly bills and small mortgage. It led to him having to put more hours in and work past retirement age to ensure the mortgage was paid.

When my auntie needed help from welfare it completely abandoned her.

In contrast her friend has feigned the seriousness of a back condition and gets no end of help. She has a back complaint but plays on it so much. In terms of benefits she gets (in addition to her state pension), housing/council tax paid for, disability benefit and mobility benefit as well as money to pay for someone to help her for a few hours a week. All in all something like £170 a week that she doesn't really need. But no-one really checks it out. How can you prove how much pain affects people?

Madness.

For those saying the benefits available arent all that - Then why will half of Europe, Africa and Asia do anything to get here?

Those made redundant should be given support until new jobs are found forr a maximum period of 2 years.

We should support single parents with a 2 bed flat, food stamps, a bus pass and pri mark vouchers for clothing. This should be done for one pregnancy.

You can bet your life if the government did this many thousands of people would soon find work in order to pay for Sky TV, UgGs, Blackberrys and cigarettes.

They are here to work and earn a living because idiots like the person in the article refuse to work. Also migrants from outside the EU do not get benefits. It is written in their work permits.

It would be wise to get your facts straight before slandering people

Do you think the africans and asians have great meetings to plan how they will come over here and get benefits? What an idiotic post

Who was i slandering and how exactly?

Where did i say the africans and asians have great meetings to plan how they will come over here and get benefits?

Also, do you consider housing a benefit?

So are immigrants taking our jobs or claiming benefits? How do they do both and still live in sh.i.tholes?

posted on 13/10/13

You said they are coming here because of benefits which is just not true. They are coming here to work and for a better life.

No work permit holder in the UK is entitled to benefits. It says so in their work permits. No housing, no jsa, absolutely nothing.

Stop reading the daily mail and educate yourself

The whole immigrant thing is very confused

basically these days if you are part of the EU you have certain entitlements same as UK citizens

The immigration bills and border security do jack all for this

Today the controls are applicable to asians and africans but the truth is they have certain restrictions that make it impossible to gain benefits

eg,a friend is pakistani and did the whole married from pakistan arranged thing

when applying for his wife to come over he had to show income, housing etc and sign that she wouldnt be a drain on UK. If he was a council tennant on benefits his mrs couldnt come over

After 5 years she could apply for British citizenship and have certain entitlements. but then she is a british citizen.

Mate, my wife is African, she schooled here (medical doctor), applied for a work permit, got one. As part of the application it is clearly stated you get no benefits.

On her work permit, it is written clearly, no recourse to public funds. I work with a lot of foreigners and it is the same for them. You can only claim benefits if you own a british passport or are an EU citizen.

So it baffles me when peeople trot out this garbage about immigrants.

MUDD - What about the thousands of people clinging to the underside of lorries to sneak in to work illegaly or to claim asylum or to take part in a sham marriages.

To say none of the European African or Asian people in this country are here to abuse the system is very naive.

posted on 13/10/13

If you are illegal in the country, how can you claim benefits. Think hard before answer this question.

People who take part in sham marriages, the overwhelming majority want to stay here to work, not to claim benefits.

How can someone here who is illegal (no documents) who is not working survive?

You surely cannot be this dense

The welfare system is immoral. That's why decent, responsible people who otherwise wouldn't vote for the Conservatives are being forced to do so.

I personally would get rid of benefits except for people who are disabled, seriously injured or have been made redundant or lost their jobs as a result of things out with their control.

If you had no safety net, it would encourage you to work as hard as the foreigners and eventually it will end immigration because there would be no jobs left for these evil foreigners to do

Labour are not my cup of tea but they are not socialists. Do you know what socialism is?

The welfare system was created to help those people most in need e.g. those who tried to work but couldn't.

It was not created to give an easy life to single mums who have 5 kids from 4 different men.
