One season wonders...

He scored 35 goals in 81 appearances for us over a two year period, helping us to reach an FA Cup final and striking up a very good partnership with Fowler, which helped us towards having some of our best Premier League seasons.

This after scoring over 20 for Forest in a season.

He was for more than one season a very good player. Which goes against the grain of the article.

He should with his talent have been better.

What does his international call ups have to with it? A Utd fan of all fans looking at England caps as an argument surprises me.

Jeffers is definitely a good shout

Sorry but I just never saw it. He showed glimpses of being a quality player but was never consistent. Hell many footballers can shows glimpses of quality however it is doing it on a consistent basis that makes a decent player into a quality player.
Never thought he was that good at all in all honesty and if he was any good surely Liverpool would have kept him for more than 2 seasons????

I said one of the best. He opened the scoring for chelsea I think 7 games in a row and scored around 15-20 goals from left mid in one season over the 2 years chelsea dominated the league, got record points etc. I got to see him every week and his consistency then was fantastic. not overating him at all, people forget how good he was because robben was fantastic also.

Duff was excellent at Blackburn for years as well

Chelsea bought him for a reason

Les,

His attitude and off the field issues more than played their part. I don't think he particularly got on with Evans towards the end.

I'm not saying he's a great player but he was a great talent.

Certainly didn't show it for long enough which is fair enough to scrutinise but I thought for at least 2 seasons he was very good.

I must have been in a coma that season. Like I said he was very good I agree but nowhere near the leGues best. In a time when you had the likes of lampard, makelele, Rooney, Henry all playing at the time.

I think we will agree to disagree on Collymore major. I have probably grown to dislike him even more now he is a pundit which probably doesn't help

Les,

Fair enough. We'll leave it there.

I can't say I really listen to him but I won't doubt you on it, that's for sure!

well if you were in a coma I cant really sway your opinion. If I were you I'd watch the game we beat barcelona 4-2. Was unreal at that time.

Yes I watched it and he played very well. Can't say that one game has swayed my opinion to put him in the bracket of leagues best to be honest

One hit wonders surely more attributable to the likes of Amir Zaki, Nadir Belhadj, maybe Geovanni at Hull as well. They way they all came, scored some nice goals, everyone was like, "hold on, they're actually quite decent players", and then they slowly disappear. They didn't just leave the club, all three slowly ceased to exist in the Premier League.

Your opinion. I don't think he was anywhere near the best player. In fact he didn't even make it into the team of the yr in 04/05 or 05/06 when Chelsea were at their most dominant

posted on 14/10/13

Pires was the best winger in all those years so Duff would have been going for the runnerup award even if he was in contention

posted on 14/10/13

Piers wasn't the best between between 04/05 - 06/07 season

drogba didnt win Player of the year in 2010 after winnign the double and scoring more than rooney and being all ropund better and having gone to the ACON. Chelsea players are usually over looked for such end of year awards in favour of man utd. I would not use that as a judge.
