in fact the only point wenger got right was actually identifying a top player
-----------

I actually think Liverpool done this part.......

Probably need to get over it.
A whole £10m less than you think he's worth, shocking.
Club offers money for player, offer is rejected just like every other football transfer, but for some reason amateur dramatics ensue

Is there anything some of you lot won't bang on about.

----
Culminating in a £40,000,001 bid from arsenal. Maybe not dramatic but the stuff of amateurs

Not sure the issue here.
Players agent makes it public knowledge any bid over £40m will allow you to talk to the player.
Arsenal bid over that.
Liverpool state that the clause in not actually there and will not sell to Arsenal.
Arsenal move to new targets.

I dont see why Liverpool fans are confused by the bid. If a players agent tells you you can get a player for £40m + 1 pound you dont bid £60m.

It was pretty funny that they believed the rumours of a release clause but it's old now lets move on.

Cygan...it was amateurish, in fact its a backhanded compliment! Arsenal shouldnt have been foolish enough to believe an activation clause that didnt exsist, they are better than that. Wenger made arsenal look stupid and all he achieved was to antagonise liverpool fc.....again really stupid.

I am sure the lfc players will use this to their advantage
by proving that suarez is at the right place.....by beating arsenal.

D'Jeezus

That's the point though? You couldn't get him for £40m because the club wouldn't accept it, doesn't matter if you can talk to the player if the club doesn't accept.

I thought that that was true, they could TALK to him, however Liverpool did not have to sell him.

SO it was a silly bid

posted on 1/11/13

They obviously believed that a bid over £40 million would entitle them to talk with Suarez, or that it invoked some sort of contractual right.

They were wrong.

Really not sure what the big deal is.

Why is it silly lefty? You always start at the start.

Psychopathic stuff in this thread, you should probably consult a psychiatrist.

Come on guys, we need to respect clubs like Liverpool do, £35m for Carroll is respectful, £16m for Jordan Henderson is respectful, £20m for Downing is respectful, not to mention Charlie Adam, Aquilani and Borini.

As if we'd take advice from Liverpool fans about how to deal with transfer fees

Even Suarez believed the clause existed...So that is why the PFA were involved.

Arsenal did nothing wrong, neither did Liverpool. Greedy agent I think is to blame in this case

posted on 1/11/13

The person to blame is Saurez and his agent.
He was desperate to get him out of their and Saurez obviously leave, by getting a club to bid they were hoping he could engineer an escape to sunnier shores.

However it was Arsenal's fault for bidding for a player who they were told was available and Saurez walks on water curing the sick.

Bale is included because he now becomes a reference point. A carroll for example is not a ref point because the whole world knows it was skewed by the £50M lfc received from the torres sale.

Becaue Liverpool said they would not sell him at that price. You couldent really have un-settled him, as he already was.

Liverpool asked for 50 million......and I soo glad they dident meet that.

Would have been an absolute bargain

"Becaue Liverpool said they would not sell him at that price. You couldent really have un-settled him, as he already was."

Clubs say that all the time. Newsflash, they're full of it.

John Henry said he wouldn't sell Torres. Two weeks later he was playing for Chelsea.

"Liverpool asked for 50 million......and I soo glad they dident meet that."

Clubs always have an asking price, no club enters a negotiation and goes "How much do you want? Fine, there you go". How do you think you got Saurez?

Ridiculous.

"I don't think Wenger decided the fee offered."

Would be shocked if he didn't have primary input but who cares, buying clubs offer less than the selling club want all the time.

Liverpool fans love being outraged and the press know how to get them going.

It was a nonsense story then and anyone clinging to it as revenge motivation now is a complete moron.

really, you are saying it is just a reference point.

What about Downing?

In Uruguay offering 40 million and a pound is seen as gesture of good will and creates an ever lasting bond between two clubs

Clubs say that all the time. Newsflash, they're full of it.

..urm - you'll find that alot of clubs tend to get the asking price, or near it, if they hold firm.

IF saurez leaves...I do think we will get 50 million plus for him.Which is what is rumoured Liverpool wanted....

and the fact you dident get him for 4000001, actually supprost this argument

There wasent a negotiation as such...Liverpool said 50 million AND they woudl not sell him to another prem club.

Torres - John Henry did say that, but when 50 million came along, for a spent player...well it was a no brainer. He wasent performing in a Liverpool shirt at the time.
