But you don't sell a player of Mata's quality to anyone. They could easily have offered him to anywhere in Europe and they could take £35mill or so instead of £40mill from utd, and that would be more of an advantage.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Maybe they have offered him around and got nothing, maybe that's what Mourinho was waiting for in the summer. You don't know, none of us know so how anyone can sit there and judge Mourinho for this potential deal is completely beyond me.
£40m for a second string player, no matter how fantastic they are, is a decent deal to any club - providing the money is used to strengthen the club's standings.

Stupid comment. You have no idea what Mourinho's thought process is over this deal (that's if it does go through) so you can't possibly claim that he's being short termist.

I doubt the guy has any longterm plans. The deal shows that. Mata is a proven PL League player and showed his class already. Buying someone new is always a risk.

Yes, buying someone new is always a risk but how does that show a lack of long term plans? If anything, not looking to sign or sell anyone suggests a lack of long term plans.
Great shift tonight Fabio
Balotelli keeps just playing so leave it

Because Mata is young and showed what is worth. Chelsea will improve their rivals for the future dramatically. That's why

Does anyone read much into this, or have they simply taken a likely deal with Mata, and clubbed it together with mere speculation in order to present the speculation as likely simply because it's next to something that's true?
And does it make sense to anyone to sell Mata to United as a title contender in the future and not to loan at least Demba to us? Ridiculous. The guy is a complete clown and dont have a longterm plan. I stand by my opinion

Mata worked well in Chelsea's 4-2-3-1 formation, it doesn't look like that's the formation Mourinho wants to ply in and I don't think Mata is the right player for Mourinho's formation.
As for strengthening a potential rival - yes, possibly, in the short and long term but, just as possibly, taking that much money from United may mean that they can't compete for a Chelsea target. This is total guesswork but maybe selling now means that United will miss out on a player like Vidal or Gundogan - both of whom would improve both teams.
And does it make sense to anyone to sell Mata to United as a title contender in the future and not to loan at least Demba to us?

Why would you want Demba Ba?
Mata is a good start but we'll need more than just him

Seems like a rounding up of all the touted Man Utd targets in to one big swoop plus the addition of the winner of the Mirror's daily transfer window lottery.

We wanted him on loan in summer as we failed to sign Suarez to have another striker option
So many better options than Demba Ba, even on loan.
Is this extra time now? No away goal rule here?
Udinese fluffing for fack
GT- the away goal rule doesn't apply in normal time, but does in extra time, so as it stands United are going through.
