Embarrassed Hodgson and every English player within 5 minutes. If we had Rashford, Vardy and Barkley (aka players who run at the defence) on from the 60th minute or so we would probably have nabbed a goal and maybe won.

what on earth happened to barkley? as far as i recall he didn't get a single minute in the 3 warm up games, nor one during the tournament itself.

Shearer you are the most fickle fack I have ever watched
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He's not really fickle though GT. He was uttering his concerns in the game against Slovakia.

What he's said has been mostly right. Although he did say we should have picked players on form, when even those in form didn't have a good tournament.

I loved him as a player and don't mind him as a pundit. I like how he gets vent up over England.

talking of captain hindsight, phil mcnulty gives every england player 4 out of 10 for tonight:

"ITV is back luck. 3 England matches during Euro 16 have been on this channel and we haven't won any of them. Coincidence?"

Maybe but I'm gonna go with the fact that we were utter carp!

Is it possible to overreact to going out to ICELAND FFS?

The picture of Shearer looking like he's sucking on lemons while the mental image of a hamster running on a treadmill working over in his brain is almost enough for me to give up on the BBC and their analysis crew.

I can;t stand Shearer's punditry on anything but England; completely agree with you that his genuine anger and trepidation of the side often reflects that of the England supporters which is a far cry from the dribbling, jingostic jesters they (and by they, I mean ITV) usually wheel in and out for England internationals.

Shearer was the best English striker from 1990s onwards in my opinion. He is a bit annoying as a pundit though.

Whether you like Shearer or not, you've got to agree that he's correct here. He genuinely would not do any worse, would he?

ask newcastle fans. at roy's last two tournaments he probably wouldn't have done worse, the question is whether he'd have got us there in the first place

He should get the job because he's English, just like the chavvy English bum who turns up to work drunk and two hours late deserves the job more than any hardworking foreigner

And what managerial experience has Shearer picked up since then? None.

Unlike most people, I think the biggest win today is Neville's resignation.

No real experience to speak of, but former players like him still get public backing for massive jobs that are out of their depth.

All this, at the expense of a host of young managers who've kept their heads down and risen quietly through the football pyramid.

This is not X Factor.
