I’d take a definite goal over a possible goal every day of the week personally
----------------------------------------------------------------------
A possible goal and a red. The red makes a huge difference.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Remember in the cup final v Chelsea we could’ve had a pen and a red but bale decided to take the tap in goal
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Can't even remember now, but seriously any player with a chance to follow up with a goal should deliberately miss, just to get a pen and red.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Would’ve got a pen them down to 10 and if we scored pen we’d be 2-1 down and would’ve been on top

If they want to make it fairer they should just bring play back for the pen regardless, and give the player the red. Simple.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Then that’s fine, i would have no problem with them clearing up the rules, same as they are doing with handballs so there’s less room for interpretation.
But in reality the goal was scored and there was no grounds for the red after
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I am intrigued by that (as I said, it’s the first time I’ve heard that interpretation). Its essentially saying that the punishment for the player differs depending on something that happens after that is out of their control. That’s nonsensical if you think about it.(and the exact reason they kept in double jeopardy for certain fouls)

If it is a matter of either scoring, or a player getting a red and the team getting a pen then it's a really stupid rule. In no way does getting a goal even out with an almost certain goal and a red. It's like 1 goal vs 2 goals.

The handball and subsequent red is because a goal has been illegally stopped. The fact that they scored in the same passage of play negates the handball.
Seems common sense to me....
ADVANTAGE
If the referee plays the advantage for an offence for which a caution / send off would have been issued had play been stopped, this caution / send off must be issued when the ball is next out of play, except for the denial of an obvious goal-scoring opportunity when the player is cautioned for unsporting behaviour.
Advantage should not be applied in situations involving serious foul play, violent conduct or a second cautionable offence unless there is a clear opportunity to score a goal. The referee must send off the player when the ball is next out of play but if the player plays the ball or challenges/interferes with an opponent, the referee will stop play, send off the player and restart with an indirect free kick, unless the player committed a more serious offence.

Yet the difference in punishment for the individual is huge between the 2 scenarios for the exact same action.
But that doesn’t change the intent of the initial action though. Remember a red card is supposed to be a punishment to a player more than a benefit to the opposition.
It doesn’t align with any other rule I can think of. I don’t actually think mariner even saw it, given he didn’t even give a yellow.
So if a player handball it on the line to stop a goal but a rebound is scored he stays on
But if he handballs it and a penalty is scored he is sent off.
Both instances a goal is scored, but one cheat is allowed to stay on and another is sent off for doing the exact same thing.
Makes no sense.
This season TAA and Robertson are responsible for 2% of all Liverpool's Premiership assists in history.
And if Atsu had missed the rebound then no penalty, no red card. Crazy.
But the fact the ref didn't book TAA means he wouldn't have even given a penalty anyway.

They’ve been excellent.
Remember Leman red card in CL 2006 final. Barca scored but the ref gave the red card and a free kick. I think that was the wrong decision most said the ref should have allowed the goal to stand and not sent off the keeper. Most Arsenal fans wanted the goal to stand and keeper to stay and I'm sure few are here.
Newcastle score to equalise in the 20th minute and TAA gets sent off and it's hard to see Liverpool winning that.
If the ref gives the penalty for the foul on mane at 0-0 the whole game turns out different. Who cares.

Needs to stay sharp, be a bit better defensively.
Has all the tools to be excellent and even world class by keeping focused.
