Still a very hard route. When all the richer clubs can throw more money at youths than we can then we are always likely to lose some on the way.

A mixture of youth and experience is the way ahead.
Liverpool
Everton
Southampton
To name a few. The point is the English teams are very poor at this and so England fail as well. Look at Barcelona and Bayern both successful club teams with great National teams as well. Must be the way forward?
1. Start emphasising sexy football. Were still miles behind Brighton
2. Get a manager with a personality (Poyet)
3. Above two comments are linked .......

Which of them teams had more than two players come out of the same youth team and make a real impact.
Liverpool have produced nothing
But I do agree with you about youth coaching
Total garbage in this country
I'd scrap age related teams and base it on size
All you get in this country is the biggest lad dominating the game and it's no help what so ever
Wakey has a very good point, size, big lads rule the game at a young age.
As I have said before on here, the problem is the pitches, muddy, sloped and too big for young kids,so hoof it up to the big lad who can muscle through.
English kids must play more 5 a side, indoors if need be,to learn how to play fast one touch footie on the deck.
Gerrard and Carragher were the 2i was thinking about at Liverpool. But now there is more emphasis on buying in talent
Walcott and Bale at Southampton
But your point still stands. It is difficult to rely on youth.
Poyet and personality? You mean he's another foreigner who stands at the side waving his arms about?
Let's see how he does at Sunderland before we put him above BM. I wouldn't want him back at Leeds anyway.
Youth and experience is the key to long term success. We do need to compete on the wages front across the board though. That's the responsibility of the owners. Getting shot of Bates is one thing, having the wherewithal to run a football club is another.
Hunwick I totally agree
I big factor, is the weather, for six months, you can only play inside
LIW I think the weather does play a part but for me this is used more as an excuse why we play hoof ball. We need to change the system and rely more on home grown players and bring back ball control and passing skills.

We'll be able to afford better wages when we've trimmed down the squad by getting shot of Brown, Pugh and some others. I reckon Mr McDermott has the idea of a leaner fitter probably smaller squad. He's already shown he's after younger players.
GFH are finding it is a steep learning curve. Personally I reckon as new boys, I think they're doing alright. They've brought in a couple of good initiatives and are probably planning more.
More fans inside ER and a more passionate atmosphere.
