Red dead redemption and Mirrors Edge?
I just finished Halo 4 which was pretty good
Also loved Need For Speed:The Run...but wasn't very popular.

Heavy Rain is quality, bit of a different one as it's like half-movie half-game.

Definitely GTAV and Red Dead Redemption.

Also

Assassins Creed (AC2, Brotherhood and AC4 are the best imo)
Borderlands 2
Skyrim
Far Cry 3

If you really liked Fallout by the way definitely get Skyrim. I'm sure you've already heard of it but if not, it's the same devs (Bethesda) and same free roam aspects, except it's a fantasy/medieval theme.

Aside from the loading screens and some technical problems (most have been patched out) it's the best game of the generation, alongside GTAV, in my opinion.

I never played them either but I really enjoyed Absolution.

Absolution was my first one and it was still great. Caught up on the back story on YT.

Depends if you like head banging difficult games that are amazing then a very underated game is Dark Souls - and what I mean by difficult is it took me around 30 minutes to kill the 1st boss you face which is just after the tutorial. Other than that I think most people have picked out the best.

Oh, if you're into tekken, there's a great game called tekken revolution on psn, FREE to download.

You don't need to play the previous Read Dead to play Red Dead Redemption, the story is individual.

Love GTA 5 but my pick of this generation would be Red Dead, with the living dead dlc as well. Amazing game. Someone else also mentioned and I think a lot of people have missed is the new Tomb Raider.

Aye the new Tomb Raider was pretty good, don't bother with the online though, it's an absolute mess.

Got a confession to make. I've not yet finished GTA 5 and I'm not sure when I will. Yes, it looks amazing and the world they have created is incredible. To be completely honest , I'm slightly...bored by it. I get that Red Dead had some repetition in it too, but I just found that more enjoyable to do.

Red Dead was the game of the generation for me.

I've already had plenty of brilliant moments but if I could change one thing about GTA V it would be to just have more missions in more places across the map. No missions involving a dam up in the mountains or on a racecourse? What? Not enough missions on Mount Chilliad. Would like more missions in general. But even then it's still one of my favourite games. What they have included is brilliantly playable, fun, the atmosphere's great and that's without thinking about the online. There will be add-ons at some point.

Red Dead arguably edged it just because that world was really magical. GTA IV was great too.

I agree Andrei, there just isn't enough variety in it to keep me interested and Red Deads world was just even more of a wow moment for me.

I wouldn't say there's a lack of variety. We are spoiled these days, it's an amazing world, diverse and massive, I just think there were parts of it that went to waste in the story.
