His preferred choice of job was in Stretford

Not a shred of evidence to back that up.

In fact all the evidence points to the contrary.

I don't know whether he wanted the Man Utd job or not Superb. The only comment on Mourinho and Man Utd came from Bobby Charlton, who indicated that he was not in favour of Mourinho at Old Trafford.

I cannot for the life of me see why a top manager would not want to go to Man Utd if they were offered it. It is like a band being asked to support Coldplay or the Stones on tour. You would be mad to turn it down.

Nobody does, which is why I always have to comment when I see people writing shít like "His preferred choice of job was in Stretford".

Unless they know Jose personally of course.

What evidence points to the contrary?

Just because he cried when he didn't get the United job, doesn't mean he can't do a decent job at Chelsea.

I see that Superb, but I cannot see why any top manager would not want that job. I actually meant to say I did not know whether he was offered the job as opposed to wanting it. Too old for multi tasking !

What evidence points to the contrary?

-------------------------------------------------

The CNN interview where Jose said he would love to return to Chelsea.

Then when he was still Real Madrid manager he said words to the effect that there was only one club he wanted to go to next and that everyone knew what that club was.

Then when he was appointed as Chelsea manager he said that Chelsea was the only club that he wanted to be at.

That evidence.

In comparison to the evidence that he wanted the Man Utd job .......nothing.

But ALL of that is supposedly AFTER he'd been rejected for ManU and had nowhere else to go.

You have zero evidence at all.

Who knows Superb ? I repeat I cannot see why he would turn down the Man Utd job if offered. It is a bigger job than being manager at Chelsea or Arsenal.

I am not sure it is your best point, but do you really think Mourinho on getting the Chelsea job was going to say he would have preferred to be somewhere else. instead..

Dunno whether I'm just being paranoid, but does anyone else think Jose looks just as, if not more miserable at the moment than he did last season?

He just doesn't look like he's enjoying himself, relishing the challenge. Benitez looked more energised when he had every reason to look dejected last year, when by contrast Jose has supposedly been granted his wish of returning to somewhere he feels appreciated..... I hope it's just genuine concern for the team or something because it is worrying me tbh.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
But if you are in the same bracket as them you could say no.

would you get say Muse supporting Coldplay?

Or the Beatles in thier prime supporting the Stones?

I see that Superb, but I cannot see why any top manager would not want that job.

---------------------------------------------------------

I can see a very good reason - nobody wanting to directly step into Sir Alex's shoes. A daunting task for any manager, even Jose.

Also if you take into account that Utd don't have the finacial muscle they once did. Just look at their spending over last couple of years.

Probably a big reason why apart from RVP and Rooney Utd have a very average squad these days.

No the CNN interview as well as the Jose interview in which he said he "I know I am loved by some clubs, especially one" happened BEFORE Fergie announced he was retiring or anyone even had a clue about it.

Get your facts right son and stop making up tosh.

You know the sad thing is most if not all the comments have been whether Jose wanted to go to Manchester of not, little wetness in the nether region Superb?
I think there is enough anecdotal evidence to speculate, and any words from Jose could have been made after it was clear to him he was not going to get the job. I don't know him personally but I bet comments made on here are from others who don't either.

Topdog please present us with any evidence whatsoever that Jose wanted the Utd job.

I await your response ........

There is absolutley no evidence, anecdotal or otherwise to suggest that JM wanted to go to OT

Blue, I don't think Chelsea or Arsenal to avoid allegations of bias are in the same bracket as Man Utd.

Superb, one thing Mourinho does not lack is self confidence. He took the Madrid job and they are at the same level so I would not see him shying away from the Man Utd job. Utd's spending or lack off did not stop them winning the league fairly easily and being 30 seconds away from winning it the season before.

The only evidence about the Man Utd job one way or the other that I have seen is from Bobby Charlton, who inferrred Mourinho was not for him.. I am not sure why it matters to any Chelsea fan whether he coveted the Man Utd job or not. Wenger did not grow up an Arsenal fan for example and I don't expect Mourinho had posters of Tommy Baldwin on his bedroom wall.

------------------------------------------------

Gunner it doesn't actually matter to me one way or the other.

What matters to me is these people who seem to claim that there is loads of evidence to back up the claim that Jose wanted the Utd job.

As Chaz said above there is not a single shred of evidence (anecdotal or otherwise) to suggest that Jose wanted it.

I asked Topdog to produce any evidence at all that Jose wanted the Utd job and predictably I didn't hear back from him.

Sorry I didn't reply immediately but my nose isn't stuck to this.
There was plenty of speculation at the time to provide doubt. What is clear is he was not the club's first choice, I offer Michael Laudrups words as evidence.
So despite whatever Jose said whenever he said it, the club didn't want him until he became the only reasonable option. Of course Jose has never played the stalking horse game now has he.

Topdog you stated (as if it was a fact) that Jose's preferred choice was Man Utd.

I asked you to provide any evidence to support your statement.

I'm still waiting .........

A leaked enquiry (and let's face it that's all it was an enquiry ) is hardly conclusive proof that JM wasn't first choice for Chelsea now is it? I'd imagine enquiry s and tabs are kept and made throughout the season. It's hardly like catching Prof Plumb in the Lounge with the blood stained lead pipe in his hand and a dead body at his feet is it.
