Bully - the best in my lifetime
Stephen Ward - ROI
There can be no greater honour in international football than getting picked by the "dream team" management duo of O'Neill and Keane. Two proper football men with both an astounding knowledge of the game, and a plethora of domestic and european honours between them.
Well done Stephen
I couldn't agree more alone, I feel a tremendous sense of pride when Wolves players are picked for their international teams. Jarvis was the peak of that in recent years, Doyle and Fletcher were givens really but it was great to see Griff, Edwards, Ward etc get that recognition.
Wolves players getting a game for Wales, Scotland, RoI or any other country that isn’t my country doesn’t fill me with any great pride but a Wolves player pulling on an England shirt does.
Watching Bully play for England is amongst the proudest experiences I have had as a Wolves fan and I can’t wait to see another Wolves player emulate that (I will ignore Jarvis’ 15minutes of fame).
Having said that despite the fact that my overriding emotion when Wolves players are on international duty is concern that they come back in one piece I would never try to deny a player representing their country and hope, for their personal development and own sense of pride, that many more get call ups in the future.
So you wouldn't mock a Wolves player if they happened to have a bad tournament then Tatter?
I don’t know Larry, it depends on what you mean by mock.
I always give an honest appraisal of players so if they were poor that’s what I’d say about them and I do like a laugh and a joke so my appraisal of a player who has been poor combined with my scintillating wit might be construed as mocking but I certainly wouldn’t take any pleasure in a Wolves player doing badly at a tournament.
Why do you ask? Has someone been guilty of such a heinous thing?

Well it propelled him to international stardom, and I'm sure no one expected that of Ward when he was signed.

Well it propelled him to Irish "stardom". The rest of the world laughed and then cringed in horror at his shambolic showing at the euro's.

He was not shambolic at all and its great that Wolves picked up a player for next to nothing from the Irish League and he became a full international and Premier League left back. The only people that laughed were the type of Wolves supporters the club could do without

Dunno DJ, he made several of the worst player at the tourny lists, or doesn't that count either?
Truly dispicable individual
Billy Wright
Steve Bull
Jolean Lescott
Robbie Keane
Steven Fletcher
Kevin Doyle
Have all given me a feeling of pride when they have represented their respective countries
That does seem to me as if the OP is taking some pleasure in the admittedly well below par performance of our Celtic cousins and of Mr Ward in particular however I’m sure he will right behind the player next season as he contributes to our cause and hopefully secures himself a second Championship winners medal.
Oh, you missed the best bit. He then went on to post several links to "the worst 20 players of the tournament".
Pathetic.
Perhaps you are being too harsh Larry.
Maybe Cinci just can’t help but compare Ward’s international career to the luminaries he has witnessed as a Scotland supporter. When your standards have been set by watching players of the quality of Mo Malpas it must be very difficult not to judge others against those same almost unmatchable standards.
I'm extremely non-nationalistic so to be honest don't give two hoots about playing for England, or Germany for that matter.
And as the greatest Wolves player I have ever seen, Peter Broadbent, was awarded an insulting 7 caps and the best striker of his time, John Richards only 1 England can kiss my fat árse.

That’s a shame I’d heard a whisper you were in line for a call up
The shirts would come in useful if i ever run out of toilet paper.
They’re a búgger to flush.
Agree tats, getting a game for Ireland is on a par with getting one for Scotland, a very very shallow pool
Anyway, getting caps is no sign of greatness surely
Razak Boukhari
Bacary Sako
Georg Margreiter
Bjorn Sigurdarson
SLavomir Pezcko
Tongo Doumbia
to name but six who have been honoured on the international stage
“Agree tats, getting a game for Ireland is on a par with getting one for Scotland”
I wouldn’t go that far!
To get a cap for RoI you need to be not only the best Irish player but also better than a whole load of plastic Irishmen who pretend they have always considered themselves Irish because their granny once gave a BJ to a leprechaun. You might also get the chance to play at a tournament.
To get a cap for Scotland you just need your own boots
Plastic Irishmen.
