Absolutely no doubt we will be picking up a striker, likely a target man style of player to compliment Griffo.

Will be interesting to see what happens then as Doyle will surely be the one removed from a strikers position, whether to the bench or not, who knows but for me he should slot in behind a front two.

That said we could well come under pressure to sell Griffo or Doyle, wouldn't be a massive surprise to see clubs inquiring about them.

You don't think Doyle's place would come under threat if we pay say a million on another striker?
Griffo could of course be the fall guy but that would not help our problem, which is not scoring goals.

I think any striker we sign in January (and I’m not sure we will with McAllinden returning) is likely to be someone who offers us something different from Griffiths rather than something different to Doyle and that Doyle will start more games for us in the new year than Griffiths.

I guess we shall see, but reading between the lines of various press comments it seems the concern is lack of goal threat, removing griffo does not address that.

AS i have said often, i would have Doyle behind a front two, its about time given the quality we have, that we let teams worry about us, not the other way around.

“I guess we shall see”

Absolutely.

Hence copying your comment to somewhere I’ll be able to find it easily so when we bring a new striker in (Absolutely no doubt we will be picking up a striker) and he displaces Doyle (Doyle will surely be the one removed from a strikers position) I can tell the world you were right all along.

I would certainly not play Doyle anywhere but in the front line. He is one of the best players I have ever seen back to goal and to play him in midfield would be a complete waste of his ability.

If only scoring goals was as simple as picking two goalscorers up front and waiting for the goals to flow. Firstly you have to have good possession in the attacking half of the field, secondly you have to create openings, thirdly you need to get someone to escape their marker in the attacking third and finally they have to put the ball away.

Sadly whenever Doyle has not played up front we have not looked like getting steps 1, 2 and 3 right so step 4 becomes pretty irrelevant

All very good in theory DJ, but at the end of the day as someone told me earlier this season (Cyp, I think) it's getting the ball into the ol' onion bag. Doyle just doesn't do that.

Why do you think KJ brought McAlinden back early and is looking for another striker? Not just cover in case Sigurdarson goes, I'm sure.

In Griffiths, we have a player who could get us 20+ goals a season. He tries and misses a lot because he has no support up front.

If we're going to play 4-4-2 then we need two strikers up front and not someone running off the ball. Take Liverpool and even Orient as an example of what could happen when you have two front men. We need another striker who will complement Griffiths. If not his threat will not be that good.

We have, in Sako, Henry and now Jacobs, plus the two full backs, players who can provide enough crosses for our front men.

And I do agree with a lot of that DJ, but none of that changes the fact we lack a goal threat.

As it stands Doyle is playing deeper anyway, not in a classic 4-4-2 system, add to that the fact we have a midfield dilemma still then i don't see why it couldn't work, or at least worth testing the waters, Doyle is an intelligent player.

,,..........kmac
henry............sako
...........Doyle
...A.striker....griffo.

In truth i would not be all that surprised to see griffo on the move anyway which of course would change everything.

Incidentally, one of the best, if not the best player I have ever seen with his back to goal was Stuart Pearson. He could control the ball no matter how it got to him and didn't spend half the time on his rear end.

I don't think kenny will do this by the way, he will likely play two of the three of Doyle griffo and newbie.

You need to read this part of DJ's comment again:

"Firstly you have to have good possession in the attacking half of the field, secondly you have to create openings, thirdly you need to get someone to escape their marker in the attacking third and finally they have to put the ball away.

Sadly whenever Doyle has NOT played up front we have NOT looked like getting steps 1, 2 and 3 right so step 4 becomes pretty irrelevant"

The point DJ is making, for the hard of thinking, is that without Doyle, the scoring of goals is LESS likely, therefore Doyle needs to be retained.

Nothing wrong with me at all. I was following Tino's advice in the first place. Delete people who is likely to provoke arguments with me and settle things down, so I have done because I know that Tino has fallen out with me over it.

So don't really want to start things up on a thread where I just want to talk, sorry.
