The fact you can take one of your clubs best players out of the team and not even miss him says it all. Don’t fancy being in Martinez shoes when Baines is fit again. That’s a tough call
He has come in, done well and looks comfortable. However you can't judge him on the individual performances after such a short time. coming into a side full of confidence and being motivated to show what you can do must have a factor in how he has played. But again shows that Moyes could pick a player. At the same time Brian came in we got Mirallas
The press are saying that you're looking at our 19 year old left back as a replacement for Baines.
If Baines is fit for Sunday i would still pick Oviedo, he looks like he could be Evertons left back for the next 10 years.
The money we could get for Baines could be valuable for other parts of the team.
Politics and player value will dictate that Baines will be back in the squad at the first time he's available for selection.
If Everton want to keep Baines then he must be shown that he's first choice left back by picking him at the earliest he's available.
If Everton are looking to sell Baines then again he will be picked at the earliest he's available to show any potential suitors his importance(value) is for Everton.
By not picking him we will possibly knock a few million of his transfer fee if we sell and we could lose his loyalty if he wanted to stay.
Politics? If he is that way motivated then he is a player I do not want at the club.
Not the player, but the chairman and manager.
For Everton FC Baines being chosen at the first available time, strengthens the clubs stance whether he stays or is sold.It shows loyalty to Baines that he is still first choice and it shows any suitors that he is without doubt our first choice left back and his value monetary wise is still the same.
Politics will play a role in how quickly he comes back to play for us
Really, you believe that?
The manager will pick the side best suited to win games, the same he has done all season. The value of Baines will not drop due to him playing or not. It will drop because he has 18 months on his current deal. I can see nothing other than a new deal for him. Otherwise at 31 he will be looking for a new club/new deal at Everton as his current one has expired. His value to the current playing sqad is high....higher than any transfer fee a club would be willing to pay for a 29yo LB
Let's see what happens.
My guess is that as soon as Baines is declared fit to play he will be immediately chosen.
I also believe he will be subject to a serious bid by at least 1 club (United) but I have a feeling that another major club will also be making a bid for him.
Not being an automatic first choice will not only have an effect on his potential sale on value but also it could become a catalyst in Baines seeking a move.
Martinez nailed his colours to the mast before a ball was kicked in anger by stating the importance of Baines to EFC.He isn't going to scupper the chance of keeping Baines by putting him on the bench when he is declared to be fit for duty.
That'll be the politics of the situation
Then you would think being that important that the club would have laid down a new deal for the player. Ensuring his value to the squad or the club is maintained if he is playing/in form or requesting a move.
As I have said before, for £5m and the years of service given I think the club would prefer to keep him until his deal runs out rather than cash in on his limited value due to age/contract remaining
I'm afraid every player has a price/value at our club.
If we receive an acceptable fee and the player is happy to go then that's normally that.
Oviedo's form although for only a brief period could be the catalyst for a deal being agreed.
Not very often do we let a player with any value run down his contract to then leave on a free.
Last one with just a nominal value was Dan Gosling and he left under a cloud.
In my opinion I think Baines will be sold in January providing the price is deemed right
YET STILL THE CLUB DOESN'T OFFER HIM A DEAL? tHUS BEING ABLE TO SECURE THE BEST POSSIBLE PRICE?
Sorry about the caps, cant be fussed retyping....but now looking back this whole post is now longer than the original point I was trying to make.
Should have just deleted and started again.

Martinez mentions players becoming big assets and also not wanting the assets being devalued by transfers running down
Didn't read the link in the previous post, but did RM not say he was going to be sorting out new contracts for those who need them in Jan '14?

I was shocked at how bad Baines FK's had become...
The two at West Ham were terrible. A post here highlights how more balanced we are without Moyes. Baines seems to be underperforming, but he is just seeing a more equal share of the ball.
His free-kicks at West Ham are his only highlights of the season, even his corners have been poor. Don't get me wrong,I don't want Baines to leave,as I still think he's the best LB in the country, but I think Oviedo has done enough to keep his place. Baines will have to be patient and wait for Oviedo' form to drop.
I think Oviedo's form reflects well on RM as well.
If you recall last year when he came in for a few games, he was not looking good, but clearly the way RM plays suits him, and more than likely the way he coaches as well.

I agree to a point. But we are no longer reliant on our LHS to create going forward so it looks like his impact has dropped. It is still to a high standard

Coleman's been brilliant.

Only a fool would disagree. He has been the standout buy of the Moyes years for me. And he is up against some tough opposition.
