Laudrup, who's with me?

His agent said yesterday that he was happy at Swansea. I would like him but it seems unlikely to me.

I have to say, I’m worried by the clamour for (another) manager with little managerial experience. De Boer, Laudrup and Pochetino all have less than three years managerial experience each, roughly the same as AVB (one year at Acadamia, one at Porto, 6 months at Chelsea? when we hired him).

Surely we need someone with nouse and gravitas to drive a good squad of players forward? We know they ‘get it’ tactically (as exemplified by a number of excellent defensive performances last year and earlier this year), so I think all they need is someone with the personal presence to give them the confidence to ‘go out there and play’.

Whoever it is needs to work closely with Sherwood et al in the Academy. We don’t seem to have a chosen tactical ‘system’ as a Club, in the same way that Chelsea, Arsenal, United and Barcelona do – this needs to be rectified. We need to appoint someone who ‘fits’ with the good footballing culture in my opinion, otherwise they’ll never be accepted by the fans and run at odds with the Academy strategy.

I have no idea who this person is in all honesty, but I really do not believe many of the options touted would be successful.

People keep talking about the release clauses. Have to remember, we’re not the FA – paying £10million for the right manager is money well spent if they’re (likely to be) successful.

For example, if we pay £10million for an excellent coach who wins us the UEFA Cup and we finish 4th, that’s probably worth £50million or more to us. I’m not saying that’s likely to happen, but even the difference between 5th and 7th is fairly significant these days.

It’s not the compensation package itself, but whether it represents good value.

Le Thudd..........................................My application has already gone in! Want to be my assistant?

Our first task is to face the players towards the opposition goal and have signs put up saying one way only!

Laudrup or Hiddink would be about the best we could get.

Why would Laudrup leave Swansea for another midtable team with little prospects of ever competimg at the top level?

Its not a progressive move for Laudrup & one he would prob turn down...need to be a bit more realistic..Zola's just resigned....expect to see him interviewed soon

I'm sure Rodgers was thinking the same thing before he joined Liverpool.

Surely we've learned from the days of paying over the odds in compensation for experienced managers with virtually no Premier League experience? If we go for someone who has never managed in this country again, I want Levy out. We need someone who knows the club, understands the league, is tactically smart and is a dedicated advocate of youth development. There's only one man that fits that role... Glenn Hoddle... and he wouldn't cost us a dime in compensation. I think Sherwood played under him as well so that bodes well in terms of developing Sherwood as a future spurs manager.

Basically we need to look closer to home. We've lost our identity and it's crucial we find someone who oozes it.

Laudrup's been managing every year bar one since 2002.

Pochettino's in his 4th year of management.
