I guess Mancini ticks the boxes. I wouldn't want him though.

I'll be so annoyed if we go for Di Matteo.

To be honest for me I'd be looking for a similar type of manager that we had in AVB. Young, ambitious and willing to commit for an extended period of time. Whilst AVB failed I do think the type of manager the club were trying to target when they appointed him was the right move, and that we shouldn't be put off at trying this approach again.

Hiddink is taking the dutch job so he's out of the equation.

Would not want Matteo, we would be parking buses all day long! Laudrup is I think still a work in progress. Hiddink would be a good choice, only doubt he might not take it because of Chelsea link.

Would love Klopp, if unlikely!!

I'd be happy with a youngish manager, but there are few good ones out there to go for. Maybe Pochetino? He ticks 2 of the boxes.

Suprtle – firstly I wouldn’t lump Laudrup, Di Matteo and Redknapp into the ‘tangible silverware’ column – yes they’ve won trophies but only won one trophy each I believe; this is not sustained success for me. Also I do not believe Laudrup or Di Matteo have anywhere near the level of managerial experience required.

In answer to your question, I think the criteria are:
1. Experience in the Premier League (essential)
2. Can work with the Academy to develop the Club footballing culture (essential)
3. Has significant (say, more than 10 years) experience managing in top leagues (essential)
4. Plays a successful, attractive, attacking brand of football (essential)
5. Has a sustained track record of managerial success (preferable)

not asking for much then ginger

Ha! Obviously on point 5 - managerial success is 'essential', not 'preferable'

I think Frank de Boer would be an excellent signing.

Had a great career at Ajax and Barcelona, I therefore expect him to be well connected in the football world and Ajax play a lovely kind of football.
Plus he already knows Vertonghen and Eriksen from the squad.
He might actually sort out our defense as well.

If possible, de Boer for me

Ginger - Any success is better than no success, and at least proves they are capable of winning things. By tangible I would just about include the League Cup but of course things like the Portuguese equivalent of the League Cup, nah.

Luka – you’re right, I’m very demanding Someone like Mancini fits the bill for me – seems to tick all the boxes (assuming he can work with the Academy). I’m not suggesting he’d leave Galatasaray for Spurs, however …

Martinez might cut it, but I doubt he would leave. Hiddink again would fit the bill, but has agreed to be the new Holland coach in July … Err, anyone else?

I'm surprised you haven't already got one to come straight in. It's amazing how boards/owners sack their managers in a rash decision mid season then scramble around to pick up the pieces and quickly get a replacement in. They should know in advance if they want their manager gone so they can take their time to sort out a proper replacement instead of rushing in the same manner they axe the current one. If they rush a new manager in whoever it is will most likely end up sacking fodder, it's not good for the players or the club.

Spurtle - the League Cup just about counts I'd say. It's very, very depressing to think all we've got to show over the last 21 years is 2 League Cups ... ;(

Solskjaer is out there, although he doesn't really tick enough.

I would be very surprised if we do not already have one or two coaches lined-up. I'm sure Levy would've set his minions off scoring potential candidates after the Manchester City loss - and indeed before that when we (supposedly) let AVB talk to Paris SG.

Ginger - Considering we are or were supposed to be a 'cup' team, yes it is.

Aye, would hope so, but they can still turn you down. Hopefully you won't go playing games manager-less, it's a ridiculous and unprofessional situation when that happens.

I agree with Spur The Moment. FDB for me. We need a manager with initals similar to AVB so we can carry on signing the Eriksen Sen Sen Sen song.

Good CV too but Levy is becoming a poor mans Roman. Would managers be willing to take a chance to work under him knowing he wants instant success ?

Spurtle – this is why playing weak teams in the Cups frustrates me :/ I’d very happily trade our season in the Champions League for an FA Cup – and that’s as someone who followed Spurs home and away during the CL campaign.

Having said that, I do realise the UEFA Cup is a massive drain on a team throughout the season. I think it’s no surprise that we keep struggling in the league whilst running a UEFA Cup campaign in parallel.

Fergie – personally I’d be surprised (and disappointed) if we didn’t make an announcement before the Southampton game on Sunday. Otherwise why not keep AVB in-charge until the new coach has been chosen? Madness.

If we can’t appoint a coach shortly, for me we’re saying Sherwood + Ferdinand >= AVB … Not sure about that at all.

Indeed, but you don't want any old manager, you should be looking to get the best man possible, and evidently your board want someone better than AVB. But tbh I can only see you getting a manager until the end of the season, like Chelsea did with Rafa.
