it bats down to 8, and i think you could afford a longer tail with the quality of those bowlers. anyway, it's not actually any longer than the 2005 ashes tail, when you consider that Flintoff averaged 32, geraint jones 28 and ashley giles 18.

Have you noticed all those BBC newsreaders with brown faces and sub continental sounding names all look at the camera with that condescending smile as they describe England smash their own team and that of their forefathers...simply classic.
No one else picked Vaughan?? Surely best captain in the field we've had in last ten years.
i disagree, strauss is the better captain, based on his results.

Strauss,
Cook,
Trott,
KP,
Bell,
Prior,
Taylor,
Bresnan,
Broad,
Swann,
Andersen.
How anyone can go without Bresnan is beyond me. 9 games 9 wins. Outstanding bowling average in 23 and batting average of 40. Top player and can still get better.
I totally agree kash, they all seem to be preferring to stick in that clown Flintoff.
My greatest cricketing prediction ever was that England would be the best test team in the world once he was finished, and I said that when he had about 4 years to play, so had to be very patient, and HEY PRESTO???
Coincidence? I don't think so.
Bresnan is already a much better player than him. Bresnan has a World Cup winners medal in his pocket. Bresnan wins everytime he plays. He is a serious cricketer who probably won't fall off a pedalo, drunk as a lord DURING THE WORLD CUP CRICKET FINALS. Some of us fans care, you see.

Yah.
Don't agree with those who pick Vaughan as captain but still pick Strauss instead of Cook.
If the captaincy is stripped-out of the equation Tresco / Cook is better than Strauss / Tresco.
Tresco can be attacking, Cook is the 'rock'.
Also without Cook many of the batting line-ups mentioned above have only Trott as a 'defensive' batsmen. In the good times they would be delicious to watch, but there may be too many collapses for comfort as well.
Assuming all in their 'prime' I'd go for
Tresco
Cook
