He basically thinks it's highly amusing to invite an anti- semitic comedian to the Lane. To add to that, he obviously understands the meaning of the quenelle and congratulated Anelka for using it. At least with Nasri and possibly Anelka they have the plausible excuse of not understanding its meaning.
Benoit Assou-Ekotto was at the centre of another French race storm on Tuesday after it emerged that he had invited anti-Semitic comedian Dieudonne M’bala M’bala to a game at Tottenham, insisting he would ‘love it’.
In a tweet that has now been deleted, the Tottenham left back — currently on loan at QPR — messaged the man who invented the controversial quenelle gesture used by Nicolas Anelka to celebrate a goal for West Brom on Saturday at West Ham.
French-born Assou-Ekotto said: ‘oh dieudo tu vien quand voir un match a tottenham? Tu va adore ... LOL.’
In English it reads: ‘When are you coming to watch a match at Tottenham? You’ll love it ... LOL.’
The tweet, sent on November 18, is open to interpretation, but in the context of a tweet he then posted in support of Anelka at the weekend, it is sure to concern a club with strong Jewish roots. On December 28, Assou-Ekotto tweeted Anelka, saying: ‘jte fellicite man belle keunel epaule.’
Translated, it means: ‘I congratulate you on the beautiful quenelle.’
The tweet is written in French slang but a French linguist told Sportsmail that ‘keunel epaule’ is a text-language spelling for the ‘quenelle épaulée’, referring to the ‘shoulder’ quenelle.
Probably just sealed a permanent transfer away from the Lane this window
Never had Benny down as a deep thinker but this takes stupidity to a whole new level.
I keep telling you he is an idiot. These are the stories that make the papers what about the smaller ones that dont I got loads on him.
Ade is exactly the same a few goals and good performances doesnt make.me.forget the horrific chracter he is.
I mean are words strong enough for the idiocy of bennys comments?
Two things to bear in mind here:
1. This is The Mail. They live a good sh.itstorm over anything race-related and...
2. There is no evidence that any of these so-called anti Semites are actually anti Semite. In France, the gesture has been associated with anti establishment ideology, not racism. The Daily Fail also acknowledge this in the article, albeit not enough:
"It is understood Assou-Ekotto has adopted the same position as Anelka and Manchester City’s Samir Nasri, who argue that the quenelle is an anti-establishment gesture and not anti-Semitic"
Sorry. Nothing to see here, although we still require a decent LB!
These guys probably don't take the politiics of these issues seriously. They're probably just personal friends of the comedian misguidedly standing up for their buddy. they may support his anti-establishment stance in that hippy way - doesn't mean they agree with other sentiments like anti-semitism. Except a player expresses outright anti-semitic comments, all this is a storm in a tea cup.
There are too many people on the active search for something to be offended about. It's the way of the modern world.
The gesture on it's own could have been seen as a misguided error of judgement but to make the link to Spurs and White Hart Lane would seem to suggest that he knew exactly what was meant.
I'm not offended in the slightest with what he's done but I would be appalled if he was ever allowed to pull on a THFC shirt after this.
Agree with Sheriff, Benny may be a plank but this is a non-story for me.
Hopefully Benny will have the sense to put in an apology or explanation quiclky, but if he thinks that the salute is just an anti establishment gesture maybe he should look at this link http://k00ls.overblog.com/2013/12/pour-ceux-qui-pr%C3%A9tendent-que-la-quenelle-n-est-pas-un-geste-antis%C3%A9mite.html
The reality is that none of us know the exact meaning of this gesture... I find it highly dubious that Anelka or Nasri meant to use a gesture as a demonstration of their supposed Anti-Semitism. If they've stated themselves that the gesture is used as an anti-establishment gesture, then why are we not taking their word for it? Why are we assuming that Benny is an anti-semite.
We have no insight into how this gesture is received in France, because our only context for it is a blurred one, framed by the tabloid media in the UK.
Catch a grip and don't blindly believe what you're reading. The most important part of this article, and the only tangible fact in it, is that the players involved have stated that gesture is Anti-Establishment. If so, then it's a left-wing gesture, and so, insistently contradictory to the racism shown by the far-right.
The information's in the article, but it's been buried beneath the flamboyant inflammatory and unfounded suspicions (guess work) of the journalist.
Well I am now learning a lot more about this horrible Quenelle and frankly the excuse that its an anti establishment gesture is wearing thin ..
Why would Benny make the joke about his 'comedian' friend coming to WHL if he didn't know about the anti-Semitic link?
Ignorance isn't a defence
The guy's a disgrace to the club and shouldn't be allowed anywhere near WHL unless it's to pick up his P45
Sorry....you,I....and all else know that Benny knew full well what he was implying by inviting the guy to a game.....
He's a typical 'above the law' attitude of the modern day player.....
I can and will do and behave how I want......!!!!
I understand people suggesting the term is ambigious it could mean this it could mean that. Fair enough.
Please then explain why benny invited the guy to white Hart lane and not loftus road where he currently plays?

…as Harry's said earlier, he's a plank. Bye bye Benny...
This is not a 'non-story'. Open your eyes guys - he's a disgrace
We openly use the Y word. But kick up a fuss when someone makes an ill timed, uneducated Tweet
