You don't have to be hacked, if you get tackled fairly at speed you are still going to end up on the ground more often or not...
It's what ended my playing days Biggish, fair tackle and I was at speed, landed badly on my shoulder and I couldn't use it properly for 8 months.

Both funnily enough, it was a summer fun competition and landed right on my shoulder. I could maybe have continued playing but it was getting harder work and when I played the first game back I was so unfit I figured I had a good run, quit.
Sometimes I regret it, a lot of my mates still play once a week but my last game was my nephew and his mates, I went in goal, they thought I was awesome for an old man but what do 8 year olds know
Yes I sometimes think I gave up to soon.
Every two or three games my calf muscle would pop and I would be out for the next 3 weeks, I just got so fed up when it kept happening i gave up...............probably should have explored the possibility of an operation but i was 38 at the time and just thought stuff it...
