I just read it on the web and was coming on here to post it.
Maybe the money we save on Harpers wages has gone into this.
It is good news, let's hope it is followed by real commitment from the boardroom and a couple of good signings.
I think we have to give the board a little credit, its a move in the right direction.
Wellens is an old fox to get an 18 month contract at 33!!!
Almost unbelievable and the furore that developed around it should have brought home ot the Board the strnegth of feelings amongst those that they must answer to if they fail to make significan further investment. I cannot see RW being convinced about signing if he did not get some assurances that the quality of those around him will be improved.
Gavin Baldwin stated that an 18 month contract to a player of Wellens age is unprecedented.
Of course that is not true, my mate mentioned that the likes of Giggs and Scholes and many others besides them have had contracts as long as that given to them when older than 33.
Great news, but, let's not forget, this alone does not improve the team. We desperately need a striker, if we sign Meite, get Khumalo back and Jones at some point and they stay fit we should be OK defensively, especially with Hubby back.
I would like us to splash out on a proven scorer, I know they are like rocking horse do do, but we do not have one. Maybe Billy on loan from Reading or Adam Le Fondre on loan, again from Reading. I think it would be a mistake to try and get Macheda back.
NY - we have seen enough of Macheda to know that he is not going to score the goals we need.
I just cant see us being able to get the proven scorer that we so need because of the cost to the club.
It is hard to think back to the Stevenage game with any good thoughts but had the Wellens situation been sorted out before now then he would have been available to play in that game and the outcome could have, and probably would have, been so different.
The extra revenue from the home game with Everton would have paid his wages to the end of the season.
If only the club had been forward thinking enough to get his deal sorted before it became a major issue.
Hey, just think, you, me and Bally, on second thoughts, DON'T, it sounds ugly.
Harper has been paid off.
I did hear something very strange today but I am not sure its true yet and it didn't fill me with joy!!!
I would think that Young Dicky was telling the truth that the club have been talking to Richie since mid December about his contract but the old fox waited till the last minute to get what he wanted.
Thats football
Or..........maybe the club didn't make him a decent offer until he showed interest in going elsewhere.
Who knows? but YD was telling the truth.
That looks to be correct.
Great news - I think he is STILL one of the best midfielders in the Championship.
Crazy, for his age he is the best.
I am very happy with that news and especially with Husband on the mend.
I hope the Italian stays where he is to be honest, he did not enthral me.
Looking forward to hearing something positive about a striker, but if I don't I will still be glued to this screen on match day
OK fellows the news is out in the press:
Ryan wants his loan back now. Its what I expected when I referred to him inflicting damage to the club.
Our club have denied it intends to go in to administration
If Ryan throws his toys out he could lose out big time if the club do go in to adminstration.
Its going to get very nasty with Ryan and the club counting the cost.
Both sides are now posturing but my money is on Bramall to pull the club through.

The thing is, if JR is no longer an owner or director then he is within his rights to ask for his loans back.
I would want my money out of a business that I no longer had any degree of control over.
If JR insists on getting his money out then TB has the wealth to temporarily replace it until he eventually sells out, be it sooner or later.
If JR wanting his money out is enough to put the club into receivership then TB has the wherewithal to prevent it from becoming a reality.

At the moment it is posturing from both sides. I think everybody would like to give Ryan his money back but it is now being used as a tool in the battle of the TO.
Bramall is a hard boiled autocrat who has set his budget for this season for running the club and I don' see him changing it for this season.
What I think he will do is to budget the payment in to next season and Ryan won't want that because this is his last throw of the coin.
Could this be what I said sometime ago "The board don't want to upset Ryan by exposing untruths" and remained silent.
Bally when it comes to Ryan's share holding thats was one of his easy on the truths...he said that he had sold them to SC but in fact he hadn't.
Ryan has still got his shares unless he has sold them since I checked CH records. In fact the shares are only worth what anyone will pay for them, not a lot!

As someone has said, the shares are worth only what anybody else is prepared to pay for them, but how much are the outstanding loans?
I cannot yet believe that JR would act in a way that would cause the club to have to consider liquidation. Could it not be case of him effectively challenging TB and DW to sell their shares and agree to a T/O? If they had to find funds to pay him off it would remove any prospect of further investment in its future by them but at least they wouldn't be using his money as well as their own.
In effect they are still riding on his back, yet going totally against what he believes is best for the club.
What he really probably wants is for them to sell up and hand back the chairmanship to him so that the club can obtain new investment from outside.
I think I would prefer that too.
Donaldo, as ever you put a good argument together.
As i said earlier, in JR's shoes i would not want my money to be held in a business that i no longer had any control over.
Would anyone?
I go along with you on this, give me SC as owners prepared to invest in the first team with JR as a figurehead rather than the inept way that the club is currently being handled.
Meath has said on the thread he started about this that JR is probably trying to put the club into administration.
I personally doubt very much whether he would let things go that far.
I read an article some time ago penned by John Ryan about how the annual losses of £1m per annum have been absorbed by the directors as interest free loans that would never be paid back - there may be a lot of smoke from both sides here but the only person who could be looking to cash in the loans is JR
