surely Parisse is Italy's star man
he'd be anyone's star player
I thought so too, but a few articles I was reading had Castrogiovanni - probably because Parisse is their captain.

SO ashton and youngs dropped for the France game.
Thoughts?
Not sure what to make of the Ashton omission. Scored bucket loads of tries a few years ago but not as many recently, although you'd still have him in because of his tries record.
I suppose England will just be hoping that his replacement is justified in France on Saturday.
Ashton annoys the fúck out of me...but that clearly show's he does job well
RKW. Massive match to drop your best finisher. But I think it's about work rate. Particularly defensive work rate. No doubt Ashton works hard in attack to be on the shoulder of the carrier and ultimately do the finishing as all good wingers should. But defensively he goes missing a wee bit.
Against less attacking minded teams we might see him. But France would most likely exploit an defensive weak points. Particularly in the 5meter channel, where they can be devastating with multiple off loads and always guys running off each other. No better team in the world at working that area in my opinion. At least in the past.
I'm assuming his replacement Nowell is a top class defender? Otherwise I can't see the reasoning for dropping him.
Are there any problems with him? I mean if it was in Lanc's head that he wasn't up to scratch for the test game wouldn't he have got a run in the Saxons game to see where he was at?
Agreed on the defensive note. Is he a replacement for the game? Fancy we might see him if things don't go to plan for England. I'm sure Lancaster has a game plan and if it goes correctly he won't need to use him.
Maybe he's fallen out of favour with Lancaster? I don't know. I'd still have put him in. Surely England can build a solid defensive unit around Ashton then unleash him on the offensive when they needed to?
No he's dropped from the team out right. Youngs also. I genuinely don't know, seems a big move. this is what i read in an irish newspaper, but beyond this, i really don't know much else.
"Ashton was selected throughout the autumn almost by default after injuries to Marland Yarde and Christian Wade limited the options available to head coach Stuart Lancaster.
But Lancaster’s patience has been exhausted and Ashton, alongside British and Irish Lions scrumhalf Ben Youngs, has been omitted from a 26-man squad that will travel to Paris on Thursday night.
The uncapped Nowell will start on the right wing with Jonny May of Gloucester, who has made only one Test appearance, earmarked for the left flank."
Big move indeed. Sounds like he wasn't even in the reckoning from the outset if he wasn't really considered a back up to Yarde and Wade.
Uncapped Jules Plisson is selected for France ahead of Saturday's match. Another team selection choice that might raise a few eyebrows.
Ashton is nowhere near England best finisher, that is just a joke in poor taste Ding. Nowell is better at pretty much everything. I would say Wade is the best finisher in England, and Yarde is our best all round winger but May and Nowell are much better than Ashton is now.
Disappointed that Goode and Barritt are on the bench but I am pretty happy with the side. Which is:
Marler Hartley Cole
Lauchbury Lawes
Wood Robshaw Vunipola
Care Farell
36 Burrell
May Brown Nowell
I would have had Daly at 13 with Manu out, Watson in for Goode on the bench and Eastmond in for Barritt. Vunipola would have got the nod for me over Marler and either Dickson or Youngs over Care (who I find a big of a selfish SH). Lastly, I don't disagree with Farrell starting over Ford this game as I would bring him on after 50min-ish and start him next week.
Looking forward to the France-England game, particularly to see how the debutants on both sides will do.
TCW - what's up?

I can help out there RKW. You may have noticed from my user name that in matters of the round ball I follow a Scottish team which has a 'rivalry' with a city neighbour that has recently fallen from grace. You are probably aware that the followers of that team in blue are an offensive bunch and the spelling of the French skipper's name is the same as a highly offensive, derogatory used by 'ra peepul' intent on inflaming and inciting one such as myself.
We of course, are demure little angels and would never dream of using such fould abuse toward the follower of any other team.

Let's blame Rangers! No I'm sure you Celtic fans would never dream of anything insulting towards them
TCW - I'll have a look.
Why certainly not RKW. You may wish to apportion blame to the Dark Side, I couldn't possibly comment.
Indeed. I don't like Rangers anyway, my Dad is a Liverpool fan like me but has a spot for Celtic. It's either because we're Catholic or as a youngster his favourite song must have been You'll Never Walk Alone!

We sang it first (about 3 weeks before actually).
Tell your dad that. You might see some spontaneous combustion.
I will
How many do we have in the prediction league? Has everyone joined?
loving that England team selection that back 3 has tries written all over it and Luther Burrell is an absolute beast

Guscott, Davies, Nicol and Wood give their views on this year's 6N. All gone for Italy Wooden Spoon, Wales seem to edge the bets but no one fancies anyone for the Grand Slam.
Italy are missing some important players, if they are all fully fit they are a top side, but below that they are still short of quality and it shows when they get 4 or 5 injuries
