I'm fine with you lot thinking that you've always paid your own way.
=============================================
not judging by your previous expletive ridden rant youre not, you seem very angry at the idea
you are deluded if you think that Glazers can compete financially with Oil Sheiks and Russian business crooks
I don't understand why some fans (Chelsea, City and even the odd United fan) can't get their heads around buying success vs spending the money you've earned
United have EARNED the money they've used to buy Mata, Tottenham EARNED the money they spent in the summer, Arsenal EARNED the money they used to buy Ozil.
Chelsea and City spent oil money to buy success, the owners bought their players with their OWN OIL MONEY, it had nothing to do with the clubs revenue, good management and well negotiated sponsorship deals over a sustained period of time - it was simply a billionaire getting bored with buying yachts and buying a football trophy instead.

Utd fans are great. They make me smile. Not going to win anything so bring out the spreadsheets
United have EARNED the money they've used to buy Mata

I agree. You make vast revenues NOW. But as I said earlier. The transfer fee is not the butt of any teams expenditure.
And back to where it started. The success of the Fergie era. Don't get me wrong. He was a phenomenal manager. But the investment made by two of the richest men in the game, is what got the ball rolling again. That gave you the opportunities to put you in the revenue bracket you are in today.
utd sold Ronaldo for 80 million and used 38 to buy. You have an unfai advantage by being one of two Clubs situated in a cheaper area in the country and have a stadium almost 80% larger than the teams in central London, should your income be rated by the same according to logistics. Chelsea have absolutely no chance of copying your game day receipts simply because of Space.
You are now one of the biggest clubs in the world. I'm not talking about revenue or anything like that. Just in a general sense. You are. 25 years ago you were not.
25 years ago you could roam the streets of London and not bump into a United fan for miles. Now I can barely lift a drain without finding one. That shows you what your success has brought. And my point is, that the success came from massive investment from two of the richest men in football. (At the time).
All teams buy success because all teams that win trophies spend money.
However if you look at the season on season net transfer spend over the last 20 or so years you will see that United were not even the biggest spenders in England in the 90's never mind the 2000's. Man United have always spent big but nowehre near as much as their European heavyweight counterparts like Milan, Real etc and nowhere near as much as Chelsea or City over the last decade. Chelsea even had a higher net spend pre Abramovich in the 90's than United did.
End of the day who cares? If Chelsea and City didn't have those huge cash injections over the last decade the PL would have just ben a procession for United year after year in the 2000's and we wouldn't have seen as many quality players in this league as we have done.
As for United floating the club on the stock exchange? Yes it raised a lot of instant capital but shareholders want a return on their investment...whereas the likes of Abramovich won't get a return on his investment and never wanted one anyway he knew he would lose hundreds of millions ploughing his own money in. Huge difference.

Liverpool did the same thing in the 70's and 80's. Gazumping other teams for top players. Of course it wasn't on the scale of today. But it was still the case.
AS IN THIS EXCHANGE TODAY - YOU ARE A PAIR OF FOOTBALL CLUBS THAT HAVE LET THE MONEY GO TO YOUR HEADS!

Dear Jose
Word on the street is that you are offloading again.
As you are unable to find room for Romelu Lukaku to fit into your project at Chelsea, please can you sell him to us at a fair price.
It's not like we could have afforded Mata.
But we were the ones who gave him first team football, a run of consecutive games and the freedom to express himself.
He's more Everton blue than Chelsea blue.
To sell him to Manchester United would be mean.
Thanks in advance.
Grateful Everton.

West brom did more for Romelu than Everton have. Just show some gratitude for getting a good player for a season and get back to developing him for us like a good little club.
