Every team that is successful will, by and large, 'buy' success. In that its more than likely they have had a large budget (not necessarily the biggest, but a fair sized one) to achieve that success. Always been the case.
Most recently City, Chelsea, PSG, Monaco etc... have spent money which has come from outside sources. Most teams don't have this luxury, but the most successful teams tend to be the biggest, the ones that generally generate the bigger incomes, thus being able to purchase the better players, thus 'buy' success.

So what, all the signings you made in the 90's/2000's were down to your success, and generated revenue?
You lot do make me laugh.
You were owned by 2 men who are now worth £1.5bn combined. They were the rich boys in the early days of the premier league.
You honestly think that your revenues paid for Veron, Van Nistlerooy, Ferdinand etc?
Get real. You United wa nkers do crack me up. The majority of you have convinced yourselves that you are purely self made. Have a little read up.....
J.P McManus and John Magnier. Look them up.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You really think United were bankrolled by those 2?
tbf with the evolution of Chelsea and Arsenal finally winning stuff the amount of Cockney reds has probably reduced from what it was in the 70s and 80s
If you try to differentiate the 2 like this you're effectively saying it's okay for 1 team to build up a massive advantage over every other club in the country because you "earned" it but no one is allowed to challenge you without achieving similar success to you with a handicap

Last season's PL win had United's money spent on Van Persie written all over it.
And Chelsea's triumphs are all tainted with money.
The reality is that the last time either of these clubs felt a genuine feeling of achievement was United winning trophies with Beckham, Scholes, Butt and Giggs.
Get back in the real world - if you can remember it!
United have had cockney reds dating back to the Busby years
when United were in Div2 we were getting 60K plus in OT..
Success can be still earned by a club who are well managed on and off the pitch and who build their sensibly over several decades. Success in football doesn't have to be and is incredibly unlikely to be instant.
Looking at the PL teams now I think there are only 5 teams that haven't had the benefit of outside investment. Many of which probably wouldn't be in the PL without it. Success is relative, and you could argue that these teams have bought 'success'.

If you go to any of the bigger clubs like Liverpool or even Leeds there are coaches from all over the place
At city I see the Cheltenham and Gloucester supporters club coach every week
Chelsea have a large north west following
Who cares where they come from, all pay the same ticket price
i think the average was about 50K

It was £50,000 on average I believe. Still more than what most clubs can say in today's world!
Paul I wasn't having a go, I was addressing the post that said there were no United fans in London before ferguson.

Try a long term plan now and you'll just have your team reaped as soon as a bigger club gets their eyes on your players

Southampton epitomises that point
Can't keep any of the young stars for long before a club like arsenal come and whip them off them
Luke Shaw is the next to go
You just have to look at how long it took ferguson to win his first title and how long it took Mancini to differentiate buying success and earning your success. Mourinho I think is a winner regardless.
