Tom Cleverly

He is not united standard. Tom "the crab" cleverley offers no creativity or attacking threat. 90% of his passes are backwards or sideways.

Cleverly is gash!! should be playing in the championship .He'll never be good enough for United.

Don't bother pal... People see what they wanna see ... Apparently, we played a rigid 4-4-2 and clevs and young were our worst players.

I would wager clevs played more forward balls than anyone on our team, yesterday

Cleverley and Young aren't our worst players, Valencia is

Tbf, it doesn't take much to look half decent in our midfield atm, it's been left to fester for a few years now, and we are seeing the results all too clearly, would he get near the Bayern, barca, real, city, Chelsea, arsenal, Dortmund midfields, not to mention numerous other clubs?, no he would not.

Clevs is the only midfielder after Carrick that can actually interchange with our attackers. There isn't another midfielder that can play one twos without smashing the ball upfront.

It's still not saying a lot but I thought he was one of our better players yesterday.

I was actually sort of glad to see him back in the line-up after he'd had some time off. He'd played a lot of football without a break leading up to the game away at Sunderland when he had a shocker.

Cleverley is so average it hurts. He doesn't get undue criticism. People just say they don't rate him because he is decidedly average.

Cleverley is the very definition of average

Cleverley is our second best midfielder after Carrick, and that says a lot. However, the kid needs a run of games with Mata playing right in front of him. During yesterdays game, Mata drifted into the middle and all our attacking players touched the ball in less than 3 minutes due to Mata being in the middle.

We have a rather bloated squad which is frighteningly short of midfield quality.

Cleverley played well yesterday I think.

-----------------------------------------------------

You said on another thread that we've never played 4-4-2 this season Ji but I can't agree with that.

Early on in the season especially, off the top of my head, I can name games against Southampton, Stoke and Sunderland I think where Rooney was often playing right up top alongside RVP, instead of the link man.

He's not a kid. He's in his mid twenties and isn't likely to suddenly develop into a top player. So the question is whether you think the player that Cleverley is now is good enough for United. I personally do not.

What was the score again?

I don't get the abuse either, i think he will eventually be a Fletcher type. He just doesn't really have that cutting edge that will win us games.

Will be a good squad player and i think we should keep him

Daft comment. The scoreline in a team sport doesn't necessarily indicate how well a player has performed. Liverpool drew today, but Sterling was class. He can't be held responsible for Toure's awfulness

_Viva_la,

I must say, I agree with you on that. All our fans are making it out to be that Clevs is supposed to be that world-class midfielder when everyone knows that he's just going to be that midfielder who just comes in when needed.

Give the guy a break, and show him that you're all supportive rather than getting on his back. At the end of the day, confidence does a considerable amount for a player at his level.

And we played with 2 out and out wingers?

No... Nearly every game, one of our wide men have been given pretty much free reign.... Then from November onwards, we ditched the idea of 2 strikers too.

We are not a 4-4-2 team.

The problem with Cleverly is that to be that small physically and offer very little creativity, then there is pretty much no use to you.

Why is it, we're losing games for fun and we know who our quality players are and we know who are the ones ain't good enough.

If that's Cleverley playing well, then that's not much use when we're still losing

As a person it's horrible to get stick like he does.

But he is basically stealing money from the club, a premier league footballer he is not and never will be

He is a championship standard player at best. If he was foreign he'd have been flogged long ago.

-----------------------------------

To a certain extent yes, but it wasn't as if they were given a license to do whatever they wanted during an entire game. Kagawa and Januzaj were still required to provide an option out wide and defensive support to Evra and Buttner which made our rough shape a 4-4-2.

It's daft because when you are discussing individual players, the team result does not in any way sum up how they've played. Surely this isn't difficult to understand???
