However, even knowing and believing that, I still find it hard to have any time for the guy...which as I say, is sad, cos he should have been a Forest Legend...and for many, he just isn't

I think Billy did once say that he'd wished he'd got Preston promoted rather than Derby. #pureclass.

The Derby fans twist the truth. They try and make out that Billy said it in a post match interview after the play off final.
Fact is he said it in an interview with The Lancashire Evening Post when he was no longer at Derby.

Reads to me as though he is expressing regret at not getting Preston promoted, rather than having a dig at Derby.
This makes an interesting read in the Guardian ( 666) about the rivalry between the two managers
