There is no difference. It's bullsheet.
I wonder where a pundit would stand if a player dived whilst his opponent was attempting to "take one for the team" with a two-footed tackle?

it's fouling
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Purposely fouling is cheating in my book, like purposely diving is cheating... they're both done to gain an advantage.
One is making the referees mind up for him.
the other is making him guess.
------
Not all people who do professional fouls, shout to the ref to give it...
diving is 5x worse than a 2 footed lunge, studs up challenge on a diver and then punching the player in the face when he's down.
because you're not being dishonest, you're merely giving some diving blouse what he deserves.
The difference is fouling is conspicuous- the player; the opposition player and the referee know exactly what is going on and know the consequence.
With diving there is an act of trying to con the referee to believe something that didn't happen, has actually happened.
Everyone knows where they stand with a professional foul; not with diving.
a "professional foul" does have a degree of honesty to it. A player does the foul, knowing he's going to take the consequences, some players have missed finals for this and have been gutted but have done it for the team.
What Jovetic did and others do is to lie to the ref, there is a difference even though both are wrong.

What does this even mean? Most players who purposely foul, get up... and act as though they didn't do anything wrong.
They don't run up to the ref and say, yes thats was a foul on purpose, give me a yellow card.
But the referee knows exactly what they're doing- it's there for all to see. No one is being conned.
Diving and imaginary card waving the 2 worse things in the game......!!!!
Here's a question for you then. A lot of us accept that players will commit a foul under extreme circumstances in order that he takes the consequences but gives his team a chance.
Don't let this turn into a hate discussion but what if the player commited a handball on the line to save his team?
What about wailing for a throw in when you know you were the last man to touch the ball? Happens every single game but no one's bothered. Isn't that cheating and trying to deceive the ref?
The only difference is that it's culturally accepted.
handball on the line (late in the match), taking a yellow to halt certain doom on a counter..these are things that your manager will give you a bonus for and everyone would do themselves and no one will ever regret.
none of those things apply to diving.
"imaginary card waving"
Never understood this one. Don't see what's wrong with it at all.
i hate throw in cheats too
Because diving is for fanníes
love it when you see the likes of shearer on MOTD barking out....."There's one way to guarantee diving will stop, show the player a red, once that happens, it'll stop, I can guarantee it"
Well no it won't, the same way showing a red for violent conduct hasn't stopped that, or showing a red for being the last man and bringing a player down hasn't stopped that either.
The only person who can be punished for a foul is the person who made it. With diving the wrong people can end up getting punished and could even miss important matches in their careers...
It won't stop it, but it will reduce it.
People already on a booking are less likely to dive...they must therefore realise that the risk is too great.
Itv the hypocrites anyway. When it's one of their favourites diving it's all good, remember Henry going down clutching his face when puyol's elbow caught him in the chest, itv could barely bring themselves to admit to the feigning injury. It was the same twaaat commentating tonight
Excellent post op
It has always bothered me that a two footed/reckless /deliberate tackle is trivialized while diving is akin to murder in English football.

Why is diving so bad?
