Squad values

So you think Ozil has gotten worse in the space of a few months? You don't think he's just been a bit off form? I'd expect better from you Daz. Awful opinion.

He's brilliant for us for the most part, not as good as he was at R.Madrid, but he's only been here a few months.

The point is that form effects transfer value.

A player has a better season than the last and his transfer value goes up, generally speaking, and if a player has a worse season than the last his transfer value goes down.

It's pretty simple.

players are worth whatever someone is willing to pay for them.

Bale isn't worth £80m as a footballer but he is worth it because Real paid that.

That's a simpleton's way of looking at it Daz. Honestly.

Obviously it may be the case in certain cases, but generally you can't judge players based on a few months form, especially if they've proven for years what they're capable of and are trying to adapt to a new league, language, culture etc.

You mean like Arsenal fans with Ramsey?

It's not a simpletons way of looking at it.

There are obviously lots of other factors to consider, but form is very much one of them - hence why many players are sold for more after a good season, and when their form dips they go for less.

So do you think Ozil is now worth less than he was 4 months ago?

posted on 1/3/14

Yes I do.

Just as I think Rooney was worth less in the summer gone than he would have been the summer prior and this one as his fluctuating form would effect how much his worth, as is often the case in most transfers.

dreadful opinion. hope you get attacked on your way home one of these days.

No, it's really not. If it wasn't people saying this about Ozil you wouldn't be so defensive.

Players' transfer value goes up if their form is good, but if their form isn't then it doesn't go down.

By that logic a player would never go for less than what they were bought for.

things like form matter if you judge things on hype and public perception unless it's someone like Torres who just lost it. form is temporary class is permanent

If Arsenal decided they wanted to sell Ozil in the summer it is very unlikely we would get £42m.
However if a team wanted to buy him from us and we didn't want to sell it would cost more than £42m.

That is why fans putting values on players is rather pointless.

Very true, DJ.

I would.

"Players' transfer value goes up if their form is good, but if their form isn't then it doesn't go down. "
===

That's the right way of looking at it, if you're fickle, reactionary and generally thick.

"By that logic a player would never go for less than what they were bought for. "

Nope. Like I said in certain cases, it's different. But saying Ozil is worth less than he was a few months ago is nothing short of hilarious. The guy's in a new league, with new players, new language. He's created the most chances in Europe this season and got bags of assists already. Sure he hasn't been as good as at R.Madrid so far, but the factors I mentioned above have a part to play in that.

posted on 1/3/14

So stupid.

If a player is in better form why is it not fickle, reactionary and generally thick to suggest his transfer fee is more then?

It's exactly the same.

posted on 1/3/14

Because it's form, which means it won't last forever. It's the player's quality that counts.

Imagine thinking the likes of Demba and Dempsey were worth 20m after half a season of good form

Player values can be a bit crazy after a world cup. Remember Suker?

You've just used the perfect two players to support the goes against what you are saying.

Their transfer value went down because their form did.

Davor Suker? He never moved directly after a world cup, and his transfer fees were always backed up by high scoring club seasons.

Players values are like stock exchange. Perform good and your stock rises, perform bad and it's lowered. But with football there's thing about reputation which often plays a part. Torres went for 50mill despite being very poor for the previous year compared to his world class form.

Özil would be snapped up for similar amount if a club wanted him. Reputation plays a big part.
