Problem is that Wenger's apostles are more than happy to give him an endless supply of chances; as soon as a new manager comes in, you just know they'll be the first to crucify him. The second we get one bad result, it'll be an endless stream of 'this never would have happened with Wenger' etc.

I actually think he might. Not as good as Fergie, mind you, but they'll do ok.

Don't think there is a manager that can duplicate Fergie's achievement.
Still, as KPPR rightly points, having a new manager and regardless of his previous achievements at whatever clubs he might have been, those fans of ours that oppose change now will be the first reactionaries as soon as a bad result will come our way.
