The only thing that makes sense for our team against Liverpool would be Half pitch press. Let liverpools defenders have the ball in their half. Put one man o Gerrard but the rest of the team should drop back into our half and leave no pass options and no space for through balls because our backline would be applying a deeper line.
we will just pass it through you then, like our 1st and 4th goal on satuday

Lol Illori,
You must be loving this season, You guys have waited 5-6 years to even be competitive. I won't deny you your moment in the sun. Liverpool are playing good football so enjoy it.
shame youve never been competitive
llori,
You can't actually 'Wum' me. Waste of time mate. Good luck with the rest of your season though.
Any way back to the topic......I don't think many coaches actually understand the complexes of a high line defence system. Thats why we are seeing such bad defending and lots of goals being leaked all over the premiership.
Not sure why they get paid soo much. If Sherwood is the future of English top flight coaching...lawd help us!
I'm sick of the stick Sherwood gets. He's now got more points this season in fewer games than avb
The guy has been thrown in at the deepend. Given a squad in crisis and morale at an all time low. He has got the team playing some decent football, reintegrated Ade and promoted Bentaleb out of nowhere.
He's also happy to give the players the kicks up the backside they deserve.
I'm not advocating him to stay on past this season, but he's done a very good job as the interim.
OP - teams have tried to do that to us and that's why we've switched formation a little. The wide midfielders drop in when we attack, the full backs overlap, the attacking midfielder goes wide and one of Sturridge or Suarez goes wide. This creates a lot of space due to the movement and this pull defenders out of position. That's why we've been scoring so many lately.
Unfortunately with this it means the central defence are isolated but the side feel we can simply out score the opposition and it has worked well so far.
The way to play us is in fact to press high up the pitch, be aggressive and stop the ball getting to our attackers.
Thats your opinion U7905... If you think he's done a good job with the resources. I accept your opinion. Getting dumped out of 3 cups and a few thrashings with no real defensive or offensive improvement. Makes it hard for me to accept he's doing a good job.
I actually think Ade has more to do with Sherwoods record than Sherwood himself. But i also accept he must get credit for getting the best out of Ade.
could put on 5 defenders like cardiff tried
I think quite often the players simply aren't good enough, or are unsuited to making a high line work.. Of course the manager should be able to spot that but I think it's almost a cultural thing.
Players like Luiz and Vertonghen are criticised for their languid style but you need those types of defenders to make a high line work - there's no point your CBs being on the halfway line if they have no composure to find a decent pass.
Unfortunately I missed the game yesterday but it's no surprise to hear we played a high line and got torn open.. Rose particularly doesn't seem to like defending and we either have to drop him or play a DM to cover for when he goes missing.. Tim is happy as long as the players try.. praising Naughton despite the fact he had a shocker sends out all the wrong signals imo and is not the sign of a winner.
Still, Christian Eriksen
No matter what way you look at it, if spurs push their back 4 to within 10yds of the halfway line as they did yesterday, they'll get absolutely battered at Anfield
28 points from 15 games isn't bad for a novice
In the cups, Arsenal and Benfica are better than us whilst the West Ham game was unfortunate after a pretty decent performance.
So what do we expect him to get from these 15 games in the league? 30 points, 35, 45?!
Everywhere..
I expect a style of football to have emerged by now, a few signs that Sherwood is making his mark on how we play. His time in charge has been defined by two things so far - Adebayor and leaking goals.
He's got the players fighting, and that's good, but you need a definite plan with every player being used to their best in a system that is effective at countering the opposition. Liverpool are destroying teams that leave gaps.. the game against them is pretty much a forgone conclusion
Bale's-The guy has no experience. He's been juggling formations and tactics to get around injuries. It's hard to come in mid season and establish a style of play. Look at Pepe Mel at West Brom. He's trying to do that but it's going terribly.
For me, he's done very well for what he is. I don't like the amount of grief he gets. I've enjoyed watching spurs so much more since he replaced avb. I was genuinely dreading going to Spurs and the end of avb's reign, now at least we're likely to see a decent game.

Bale's Left Foot,
Totally agree, truth is its too late for Sherwood to tech anything. If he hasn't done it by now he will never do it this season.
All I can ask from Sherwood is he plays players in their best positions.
Eriksen behind a striker
Chadli and Townsend or Lennon..on the flanks of our lone striker
A DM that likes tackling
Bentaleb or Dembele
Sorry but judging on our talent we can't have Eriksen and Paulinho in the same team unless we play christmas tree formation and forgo wingers

72m for Neymar? Tell me which player does Barca need more? defender or another attacker?
I only say 20m because it's barca. Verts should not be more than 16.5m
In 2010. Barcelona bought Mascherano for £17.5m and he isn't even a centre back. Taking into account inflation I think £20m for Vertonghen is on par.
"After being delighted at how the visitors’ aims were met in the first half, Ward-Prowse’s feelings to what followed were a total contrast – a display he attributed to a mixture of his own side’s failings and Spurs’ resurgence.
The midfielder explained to reporters: “We had a game-plan to exploit their high defensive line and put balls over the top. We did that and that’s how our two goals came.
“We had confidence in our game-plan before the game. With the pace we’ve got with Rickie and Jay and Adam’s movement, we proved too much for them."
I bet liverpool will adopt the same plan
What does llori offer this site apart from the input of a five year old?
I think parking the bus is a very bad idea vs Liverpool. We need to hit them were they are weakest and IMO that is in the midfield. Sure the likes of Gerrard/Henderson are doing wonders playing defense splitting balls to their attacking players, however I have seen them overrun time and time again. Swansea, Southampton, Hull, Fulham doing it to name a few. If we play a 3 man midfield at top form harassing the opposition then we may have a chance.
Realistically though, it will be 5-1 Liverpool.
