A step in the wrong direction???

If wellbeck goal counted and he took his chance and we won 3-1 with 2 good Bayern Munich players out a long with injured Thiago would have been unbelieveable.

The best thing about tonight was they barely troubled our goal, most of there shots were blocked and apart from a couple of moments from arjen robben we stopped them. Possession means little, Inter milan and arsenal went to the nou camp with very little possession arsenal nearly went through and Inter milan did it with 10 men even chelsea did it to.

Clear cut chances wise it was 50/50.

I think Man utd are first side in like a year to stop Bayern Munich winning away.

It was making do with what we had, against the best team in the world. You have to credit the manager and the players for that, we didn't play like world beaters but we didn't roll over and take it like most thought we would. This team and club needs a lot of rebuilding, we're not blessed with the talent that Bayern have. If you expected us to go out all guns blazing like the Man Utd of several years ago then you've really not been paying much attention lately. As far as positives to take from this year, this might actually be the peak, because we're not - at the moment - one of the elite 'forces' in Europe.

You know they are some sensible fans out there from all teams that know that going toe to toe with Bayern would be suicidal.

The stupid fans write posts like this...

Im sorry, i didnt realise that this wasnt a forum for expressing opinions, and that we all have to row in the same direction or we are "morons" as per heisenberg. maybe im struggliing to come to terms with the new standards set at man utd, and heisenberg has adjusted quicker than me.

Tonight was NOT an indication of how we'll be playing in the future.

It was a performance we needed and could get with the squad we have. New players would lead to an improvement of how we play, hopefully.

You can express any opinion you like but less than 2 hours after a heroic performance is not the time to come on and act like we played like a bunch of losers..

after the disasters which were the City and Liverpool games it IS moronic to even suggest that tonight was a step in the wrong direction.

I'd love United to have been able to go toe to toe with Bayern tonight but that would not have been the best tactic as we couldn't have coped that way.

Tonight though was a step in the right direction tactically at least in that we restricted them to mostly half chances when we had a few players missing.

Hopefully in a few years we will have a team that can front up but right now we haven't so that is what we got.

This game has not changed my opinion of Moyes.

But I really don't think you can criticise him for his tactics today as any manager would have done the same.

Fergie did the same last season to Real. Chelsea did the same to Bayern earlier in the season, so did City and Arsenal - albeit they didn't play as many long balls and had a lot more quality on the counter.

Bayern are a team that have been building towards this for many years. Expecting anything other than a solid and disciplined defensive performance and hitting them on the break is delusional.

The team shown great character tonight, but j have tk agree with the sentiment.

We couldn't keep hold of the ball unless we hogged to Fellaini in the second half and relied on balls over the top in the first.

Saying that, were we ever going toe to toe with Bayern?

Against this Munich team at full strength, I think the last team we had that could go toe to toe with them would be the 07/08 team.

Whose breaking bad?

You couldn't. If you had to pick something, it'd be to start Giggs over Kagawa. He clearly offers more and I'm not sure why Moyes is so blind to it.

We parked the bus many a times in the last 5 years. OP is deluded.

posted on 1/4/14

busby we were going more than toe to toe, we were winning the game, something Bayern were never doing at any point. Unless you are of the opinion that goals are secondary to stats.

Op

Have you been paid to be a cretin?

posted on 1/4/14

I get what the OP is saying, it's just clouded in ignorant stupidity.

We're not 'traditionally' a team that plays negative, defensive football, especially at home, but we have a new manager now, new methods and new tactics. When you go up against a team like Bayern you MUST play that defensive game if you want to get anything, especially when you're carrying a lot of mediocre players. You need to appreciate that there's only ever a few teams in the world that have so much talent that they can face any team and stick to their plan A - we're not one of those teams.

How would the OP feel if United had won tonight?

He wouldn't give a fack.

Therefore, stupid article.

Bayern are a complete team and we're a work in progress.

Jose got his two cl wins by playing like this. And with Inter, a better team.

posted on 1/4/14

Dark, nah that's side would have at back and hit them on the counter just with far more quality than what we have now.

Fergie hasn't been trying to go toe to toe with the big guns in Europe since about 2003.

Barca, who finished third that season, and were a far cry from the side they were following year, did what Bayern did to us today.
